The surge protective devices in the Safe Protection Plus product family provide maximum performance and endurance to deliver reliable protection. Reinforced insulation also ensures additional user and system safety. The direct response behavior protects the backup fuse and installation. Rapid disconnection guarantees a high level of operational safety.

Various SPDs on a workbench

With its wear-free, triggered multi-carbon spark gap, FLT-SPP features very fast response behavior and a low residual voltage. Compared with varistor-based (MOV) lightning current arresters, the load on the end device is significantly reduced, which greatly improves the protective effect for the whole system.

The VAL-SPP surge protective devices feature direct response behavior, effectively protecting the backup fuse and installation. Downstream components are reliably protected against residual surge voltages. The rapid disconnection ensures a high level of operational safety in the event of an overload.

Miswiring and touch protection for the surge protective devices in the SPP family

The products in the SPP family are characterized by their simplicity and safety. They boast innovative features such as miswiring and touch protection, plus a reduced tightening torque of just 3 Nm. The SPP product family therefore offers forward-thinking advantages that already meet the standards of the future, today.

SPP surge protection for various applications (building installation, wind power, and telecommunications)

The robust protective devices with an overall width of 17.5 mm per position are suitable for demanding environments and allow space-saving installation without a backup fuse up to 315 A and at altitudes up to 5,000 m. Thanks to the triggered multi-carbon spark gap, the FLASHTRAB SPP combined lightning current and surge arresters are able to control multiple pulses and are ideal for lightning-intensive regions and applications in exposed locations, such as wind power and telecommunications. VALVETRAB SPP reliably protects AC and solar applications in various voltage and circuit versions. With the products in the Safe Protection Plus family, you’re sure to find the right surge protection for almost any application.

Modular remote signaling
For many product versions, the Safe Protection Plus product family offers modular remote signaling that can be quickly and easily plugged into the corresponding base element. The remote signaling has reinforced insulation for the main circuit, which further increases electrical safety.
Mechanical status indicator
Each plug has a mechanical status indicator. This enables the identification of overloaded protective plugs directly on site.
Consistent pluggable design
The protection modules can be plugged into each path and enable fast, cost-effective replacement of overloaded plugs. The pluggable design facilitates maintenance such as insulation measurements, as the plugs can be easily removed and reinserted – reducing effort and increasing safety.
Reduced tightening torque
The tightening torque has been reduced to 3 Nm. The low tightening torque makes it easier to install the protective devices correctly.
New disconnection
Due to high-performance disconnection, surge protection in the event of an overload and fault is even faster and more reliable.
Miswiring and touch protection
The products are equipped with miswiring and touch protection. This reliably prevents mismatching under the clamping pockets. Touch protection ensures greater safety during operation. Current-carrying parts can no longer be touched once the cables have been connected.
Biconnect connection system
The products for AC applications are equipped with Biconnect. This means that you can easily bridge the surge protection to other components, such as miniature circuit breakers.

FLT-SPP... combined lightning current and surge arresters with triggered multi-carbon spark gap

FLASHTRAB SPP – type 1+2+3 combined lightning current and surge arresters Surge protection with triggered multi-carbon spark gap

The FLT-SPP and FLT-MB lightning current and surge arresters use the triggered multi-carbon spark gap. This technology is particularly powerful. Its multi-pulse capability means that even extremely high and closely spaced lightning pulses are handled reliably. The spark gap operates with no line follow current. Short-circuit currents after the discharge process are prevented, thus maintaining system availability. Thanks to low voltage protection levels and a low residual voltage curve, the load on downstream devices is significantly reduced, which offers noticeably better protection, especially compared to varistor-based surge protective devices. In addition to the requirements for type 1 lightning current arresters, they also meet the requirements for type 2 and 3 surge protective devices.
