Charging inlets for electric vehicles

Short charging times for your electric vehicles

With our CHARX connect universal CCS charging inlets for universal use, we offer a High Power Charging interface with charging powers above 500 kW that significantly reduces charging times for electric vehicles and mobile machinery. In addition to AC charging inlets and GB/T charging inlets, we have a comprehensive portfolio for all regions and applications.

With their optimized and clever sealing system, our vehicle charging inlets have been successfully tested in accordance with ISO 20653.

Comprehensive IP6K7 and IP6K5 degree of protection
The entire charging inlet features comprehensive IP6K7 and IP6K5 degree of protection. It is therefore protected from all sides against the ingress of dust, water up to a depth of one meter, splash water, and contact. This applies both to the part installed inside the vehicle and to the front area outside, even when the charging flap is open.

IP6K6K and IP6K9K in the front area
In addition, the front area is protected against high-pressure or steam jet cleaning and the ingress of dust in accordance with IP6K6K and IP6K9K degree of protection, both with the protective caps in place and when open.

During the charging process
When the charging connector is plugged in, the degree of protection of the front area of the vehicle charging inlet corresponds to that of the plugged in and locked charging connector, which is specified as IP44 in the standard. In this case, the front area is protected against splash water on all sides, solid foreign objects with a diameter ≥1.0 mm, and against access with a wire.

Road construction vehicle being charged at a High Power Charging station

Our CHARX connect universal CCS charging inlets enable the vehicle-side use of High Power Charging (HPC) technology for the fast charging of all types of electric vehicles.

With conductor cross-sections of up to 120 mm², you can charge electric vehicles permanently with 375 A using our CCS charging inlets. Depending on other conditions such as the ambient temperature, the routing of the cables in the vehicle, or the application-specific charging profile, you can even charge your electric vehicle with higher charging powers of over 500 kW (>500 A/1,000 V) for short periods in Boost Mode.

CHARX connect vehicle charging inlets

PTC chain at the AC contacts (charging with up to 80 A)
The PTC sensor technology in the AC area consists of a chain of resistors, each of which is located at a contact. By detecting the respective resistance values, safe shutdown is enabled if the limit temperature is exceeded.

Pt 1000 sensors at the DC contacts (charging with up to 500 A)
In the DC area, charging is performed with higher currents, therefore precise temperature measurement is required. A Pt 1000 sensor is located at both DC contacts, enabling the temperature to be measured very precisely. Based on the evaluated measurement data, the requested DC charging current can be controlled dynamically by the vehicle. Immediate shutdown is initiated when a limit temperature of 90°C is exceeded at the contact.

The precise temperature sensor technology of our vehicle charging inlets ensures a high level of safety during the charging process. The optimized connection technology between the DC contacts and high-voltage cables also minimizes heating of the system.

Various types of electric vehicles

The relevant external dimensions and screw-connection geometries of the CHARX connect universal CCS charging inlets and AC charging inlets are identical to each other. This enables you to plan the same installation space for each electric vehicle regardless of the target market – from ships to motorbikes.

Mounting a vehicle charging inlet

As a reliable partner, we meet the high quality requirements of our customers in the automotive industry. We are now channeling this expertise into all other types of electric vehicles. Whether for buses, road sweepers, bulldozers, mining vehicles, transport vehicles, or sporty snowmobiles.

Our CHARX connect universal vehicle charging inlets comply with the relevant standards:

  • IEC 62196
  • SAE J1772
  • GB/T 20234

Phoenix Contact E-Mobility is certified in accordance with IATF 16949.

Our CHARX connect universal charging inlets have a proven long service life of over 10,000 insertion cycles.

The carefully considered use of materials results in a highly robust product. CHARX connect universal charging inlets are therefore also suitable for applications in very demanding environmental conditions, such as in snowscapes, at sea, in dusty and muddy environments, or areas with high outside temperatures. This makes our charging interfaces particularly suitable for off-road vehicles, ships, and mobile machinery.
