Classes of industrial communication cabling

Categories and transmission properties

Modern communication cabling conforms to ISO/IEC 11801. This standard for building cabling describes channels and component categories for networks with different transmission properties.

  • Each channel class describes the entire transmission path.
  • Each component category specifies the requirements placed on the individual components.
  • The respective components are used in the corresponding channel.

For example:
If a Class EA channel is dimensioned with CAT6A components according to ISO/IEC 11801, AM1 and AM2, 10 Gigabit Ethernet becomes possible by design.
