Space-saving, accurate DC direct measurement up to 650 kW

The DC energy meter enables the measurement of direct current and voltages up to 650 A/1,000 V in accordance with accuracy-class-B (EN 50470-3), without the need for an additional current transformer. Connect live copper rails or cable lugs of circular conductors directly to the through-holes of the integrated busbars. The voltage is measured via a sensor line via the screw connection. Despite the compact dimensions of 107 (W) x 116 (H) x 67 (D) mm, it is possible to measure powers of up to 650 kW.

Optimized for billing purposes

For use in kWh-accurate billing systems, the DC energy meter has approval in accordance with Annex 4 Module B of the German Measurement and Calibration Regulation. The sealable housing covers for protecting the connection elements from unauthorized access and encrypted data transmission ensure manipulation detection. With the storage of the energy value data, permanent traceability of the charging processes is guaranteed. In addition, all events in the calibration log that have an impact on billing are recorded.

Broad temperature application range

Shunt measurement is integrated into the heatsink of the product, enabling reliable operation in an extended temperature application range from -40°C to +80°C. You can use the DC energy meter in all DC applications with outputs of up to 650 kW, even under extreme ambient temperatures.

Standardized plug-and-play connection

The integrated RS-485 interface with the simplified SLIP protocol (Serial Line Internet Protocol) enables the communication of measurement data to higher-level control systems. The standardized OCMF (Open Charge Metering Format) data format is ideal for billing purposes in charging infrastructure. With the MID-certified measuring devices of the EMpro product family, you can easily and cost-effectively measure energy data and bill energy consumption in accordance with the European Measuring Instruments Directive. The continuous data acquisition provides you with the basic data you need for your energy audit.

Flexible current measurement

All product types are available either with a measurement input for an external current transformer or with an input for direct measurement. The current transformer measurement input is configurable for 1 A or 5 A transformers. The transformer ratio can also be configured. Currents up to 40 A or 80 A are captured directly via an internal current transformer.

Integrated web server

The integrated web server of the Ethernet-based measuring devices gives you remote configuration, remote data access, and energy data storage. The data can be downloaded manually or exported automatically via the FTP function.

Store and draw energy as needed

Excess current, such as from solar power, wind power, etc., is temporarily stored in conventional battery storage systems and can be used or drawn at night, for example. By contrast, a storage container provides a lot of power in a relatively small space and, with an intelligent battery control system, can be quickly charged and discharged at any time. Energy meters that can distinguish between power supply and consumption are used to monitor the charging and discharging processes. The metered values are indicated on the display.

Charging infrastructure and load management in parking garages

Typically, when expanding the charging infrastructure, AC charging powers from 11 to 22 kW and DC charging powers from 50 kW are installed. In semi-public spaces, electric vehicles are charged with a charging power of up to 22 kW AC, given that longer downtimes are typical. In the event that less charging time is available, some charging points are made available with over 50 kW of charging power on the basis of direct current. The superordinate energy monitoring system measures the load on the three-phase grid and the superordinate charge controller uses the measured data to perform load management. As a result, the available connected load is utilized optimally while the mains connection is protected against overload at the same time.

Individual billing in train stations

All energy consumption between both the train station operator and other owners who offer shopping and restaurant facilities, for example, must be billed in compliance with MID at the end of the day: Based on general consumption, such as lighting, escalators, HVAC applications; based on individual consumption, such as from the bakery to the restaurant or snack bar; based on means of transportation, such as electric point heating systems. Typically, the measuring devices are connected to each other via a fieldbus interface and are directly connected to the energy data management system. This eliminates any time-consuming direct reading on site.

Consumption monitoring in rental apartments

The resident of a house or apartment should be able to know and read how much energy is being consumed at any time. How much electrical power is my charging station consuming? What is happening in my workshop or how much power is being consumed elsewhere? Energy meters installed in series, also known as intermediate meters, are permanently installed in the distribution box. As a residential metering point, they measure the energy consumed by each of the separate protected areas of a house or apartment. A display on the measuring device enables consumption to be read directly.

Energy management of public buildings

Rising energy costs and the generally challenging situation facing municipalities and local authority budgets, along with the growing need for action on climate protection, are just some of the arguments in favor of efficient energy use in municipal, local authority and public facilities. Easier said than done given the large variety of buildings and each of their different energy situations, making urban and municipal energy management very complex. The solution in this case is digitalized and networked energy monitoring consisting of energy meters, energy measuring devices, and suitable software.

Hotels, shops, and restaurants each billed separately

The hotel operator, each individual guest, and external in-house restaurants must all be billed separately. In the future, buildings will be increasingly more complex, increasing the demands on energy monitoring and management. Just how much charging stations in an underground garage consume will need to be determined. The power output by solar cells must be defined. The consumption of a third-party caterer in-house must be settled. By adhering to the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2014/32/EU, the use of energy meters ensures that power loads are settled properly in accordance with tax law.

Managing charging processes in the e-mobility infrastructure

Typically, when expanding the charging infrastructure, AC charging powers from 11 to 22 kW and DC charging powers from 50 kW are installed. Public charging stations require short charging times with high charging powers so that vehicles can continue their journey quickly within a few minutes. Fast charging starts from 50 kW and includes High Power Charging (HPC) starting from 150 kW DC. The superordinate energy monitoring system measures the load on the three-phase grid and the superordinate charge controller uses the measured data to perform load management. As a result, the available connected load is utilized optimally while the mains connection is protected against overload at the same time.

Small consumers, from lighting and motors to large loads such as injection molding machines, are found in production. At present, the use of direct current grids is being targeted for the future, as they enable greater energy efficiency.

Transparency in data centers

Data centers are designed to supply IT components without interruption, ensuring IT productivity through appropriate redundancies. This involves the use of complex power supply systems, components such as UPS systems (uninterruptible power supply), and grid replacement systems. The consistent increase in the volume of data requires high availability at each step, through to cost center management. Energy meters create transparency and are used for billing tasks, thus keeping the focus steadily on the enormous energy consumption.

Individual billing at airports

All energy consumption between both the airport operator and a number of properties such as shops, restaurants, offices, hotel businesses must be billed in compliance with MID at the end of the day: Based on general consumption, such as lighting, escalators, HVAC applications; based on individual consumption, such as the restaurant or snack bar to any sublet office complexes; based on means of transportation, such as transport conveyors, luggage processing, and taxiway prelighting.
