Surge protective devices for North American power supply systems

Surge protection for North American power supply systems

Power supply systems in accordance with North American standards differ significantly from those in accordance with IEC standards. Apart from the supply system configurations and voltages, the technical and normative requirements also differ. Surge protective devices in accordance with IEC do not comply with these requirements. For this reason, specific SPDs are available for North American supply systems. These comply with the North American standards in accordance with UL and CSA.

Modular remote signaling
The surge protective devices in the Safe Protection Plus product family feature modular, plug-in remote signaling, which enables quick and easy installation and minimizes effort during maintenance.
New disconnection
The high-performance disconnection triggers even more rapidly and reliably in the event of an overload or fault.
Pluggable surge protection
The protection modules can be plugged in separately for each path. Overloaded plugs can thus be replaced quickly and inexpensively. In the event of maintenance, such as insulation measurements, the connectors can be unplugged and plugged back in again after measurement without any intervention into the installation.
Miswiring and touch protection
The products are equipped with miswiring and touch protection. This reliably prevents incorrect insertion. The touch protection ensures greater safety during operation, because live parts can no longer be touched once the cables are connected.
Biconnect connection
VAL-US-SPP devices are equipped with Biconnect connections. This means that you can easily bridge the surge protection to other components, such as miniature circuit breakers.
Open Type UL Listed
Because they are Open Type UL Listed, VALVETRAB US-SPP devices can be integrated into new and existing systems without additional testing. This applies to all common power supply systems in North America in accordance with the NEMA standard.
Ready for NFPA 79 logo

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

Surge protection is mandatory in the USA for safety operating data systems and critical operating data systems. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 79: Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery, a supplementary document of the National Electrical Code (NEC), describes requirements for the protection of operators, equipment, equipment, and ongoing operations. In order to meet these requirements, UL-listed surge protection has been stipulated since the 2018 edition of NFPA 79. Using the VAL-US-SPP ensures that you meet these requirements and are on the safe side.
