Safety aspects for maintenance and operating personnel
Example application: Safe railway operation
Alongside requirements for safe railway operation for passengers, the safety requirements for maintenance and operating personnel must be met. Electrotechnical operating equipment is basically never switched off, and as a result, is a constant source of danger. In the low-voltage area in particular, inspection, maintenance, and service measures must often be carried out on live equipment. Therefore, suitable measures must be implemented in advance to ensure the safety of personnel.
In old signal boxes in particular, some applications require a non-conductive environment as a protective measure. Devices with protective isolation in protection class II must be used, since they provide electrical safety with high-quality insulation concepts and non-conductive housings – even without protective earth contacting.
Even “simple“ electromechanical components must provide protection against touch voltage with their high electronic quality standards and design properties. They realize this with touch protection, switching locks, disconnect knives, insulated test plugs, and pulse voltage resistance. The Phoenix Contact test laboratory is certified in accordance with ISO 17025 to ensure the high quality standards.
