Push-in terminal blocks in front of solid wood

High-performance processing machines for solid wood quickly wired

Wood has always been in demand as a material around the world. Complex woodworking machines are used to ensure a contemporary appearance. As the production time for the machines becomes ever shorter, the wiring must also be performed more quickly. Weinig, the market leader in the field of solid wood processing machines and turnkey production systems, saves space and time when designing systems with Push-in connection terminal blocks. The wiring time is reduced with easy, quick, and tool-free conductor connection. The deciding factor for using the Push-in terminal blocks from Phoenix Contact is the conductor connection without special tools – both in the workshop and when put together at the end customer’s site.

Market leader for solid wood processing machines and turnkey production systems

The Weinig Group is the market leader in solid wood processing machines and turn-key production systems for industrial and manual operations. For over 100 years, the name Weinig has stood for quality and progress in woodworking. In addition to successful series production of machines, the company is increasingly offering its customers tailored solutions. Some 900 employees in Germany plan and produce four special machines and systems per day according to customer wishes. The company, with headquarters in Tauberbischofsheim, employs more than 2,200 staff and is represented on all continents. The export quota is 83 percent.

Standardization and optimized, consistently structured manufacturing processes as the keys to success

The time for implementing ever-more challenging customer requests – from the initial idea, right through to the complete machine or turnkey system – is becoming ever-shorter for machine building companies. Gerhard Göbel is in charge of central switchgear manufacturing at Weinig. Along with his team of 80 specialists, he produces a complete switchgear system for a customer-specific special machine or system in just eight to fifteen days. The standardization of the basic functions in the control cabinet is one of the success factors, as is the optimized, consistently structured manufacturing process in which the switchgear is produced, from the selection of the individual parts to pre-assembly through to final assembly. As a result, for all components that are installed in the system, time savings during system production is also taken into account in addition to quality.

To wire our switchgear quickly and easily, yet reliably, we benefit from the advantages of the Push-in connection terminal blocks from Phoenix Contact. “Even the smallest conductors with ferrules can be easily inserted into the clamping space without tools. Given the high number of wiring points in the controller, this saves us a great deal of time.”

Fast and easy wiring in the control cabinet thanks to Push-in terminal blocks

Shorter realization phases with increasing customer wishes at the same time also have an effect on the wiring time. Therefore, Weinig relies on the speedy, easy-to-wire Push-in connection terminal blocks from the CLIPLINE complete terminal block series.
The complete controller wiring of the woodworking machines is laid via compact double-level terminal blocks in desk design in the lower part of the control cabinet. Later – in the case of construction at the customer site – the machines are quickly and safely connected to the control cabinet by means of direct insertion. The two large-surface marking options provide a good overview. The orange-colored push button of the Push-in connection technology prevents incorrect insertion when wiring. “The insertion funnels for the conductors are clearly recognizable,” according to Göbel, “meaning there are no more wiring errors.”

A double function shaft is available on both levels of the double-level terminal blocks. As a result, all potential distribution tasks can be managed in a manner that saves time and costs with plug-in bridges from the CLIPLINE complete system. Test adapters for free assembly also make contact in the function shafts. The switchgear can be easily connected to the test field.

Weinig machines are used around the world. “We require international approvals for the Push-in terminal blocks,” explains Göbel. “Both in system operation and when transporting to the customer, the contact points are exposed to shocks and vibration. This is where the Push-in terminal blocks provide a high degree of safety.” For use in all industries and markets, the Push-in terminal blocks are designed in accordance with IEC 60947-7. UL and CSA approvals for the American market and industry-specific approvals for transportation technology and process engineering according to IEC-EX are available, as are approvals for all commercial shipbuilding registers.

The Weinig company standard stipulates conductor handling with ferrules for the splicing protection of stranded conductors. Göbel: “We save a great deal of time with the mobile stripping and crimping device, and our specialist team can dedicate their time to other tasks.”

High-tech special machines enabling all customer wishes to be implemented in the shortest amount of time – that is our approach, and that is why we need the best components on the market.
