Phoenix Contact USA receives Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence
Company honored for solar EV carport
Middletown, PA – Phoenix Contact USA has received a 2025 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence (GAEE) for its solar electric vehicle (EV) carport. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection honored Phoenix Contact and other Pennsylvania companies and organizations at an award ceremony in Harrisburg, Pa., on Tuesday, June 10.
Phoenix Contact completed commissioning on the solar EV carport in June 2024. The system has 10 EV charging stations and a 220-kilowatt (kW) battery storage system. The 112.5 kW solar system can produce about 1,286 megawatts (MW) per year. It includes four Flo charging stations, each with two charging points, and two Jule fast-charging stations.
“Our corporate fleet includes several EVs, and many of our employees also drive EVs,” said Doug Ferguson, Senior Vice President for Americas Services at Phoenix Contact. “The carport offers a completely green and renewable option to keep those vehicles charged without adding any burden to the electric grid. The solar EV carport is one step toward reaching Phoenix Contact’s goal of a carbon-neutral value chain by 2030.”
This is the fifth time that Phoenix Contact has received a GAEE. Previous winning projects included a 1 MW rooftop solar project (2023); eight EV-charging parking stations (2015); a 1 MW (CCHP) combined cooling, heating, and power system (2014); and an earlier solar-powered EV charging station (2013).
GAEE recognizes projects by schools, businesses, and community organizations based on their degree of environmental protection, innovation, partnership, economic impact, consideration of climate change, and environmental justice and the outcomes achieved.
