Who are you and what is your job at Phoenix Contact?
My name is Will Orchard and I work in IT, which normally involves looking after anything that has a plug attached! I joined as apprentice, and after completing coursework and passing exams I was taken on full time.
What is special about your job and why do you like doing it?
My job is very different every day. Apart from telling people to turn things off and on, I have day to day IT issues to resolve and work on IT projects.
I like to be able to resolve people’s issues quickly and efficiently so users and the business can remain operational with very little downtime, at the same time keeping the company and its systems secure.
What are you doing in your private life to make a difference?
Prior to starting work at Phoenix Contact I completed a ten-week volunteer expedition in Nepal working on a water sanitation project. This involved various tasks, mainly digging trenches for water pipes from the water supply to the villages ensuring clean water for all. Also living and working with the locals to complete the projects.
