MTP DESIGNER Short times-to-market and a high degree of flexibility: MTP-compliant modules can be created quickly and easily with the MTP DESIGNER.

The challenge

Creation

Increasing complexity and requirements

In a constantly changing world, system operators and system integrators, for example, are increasingly faced with short-term, variable customer requirements. Accordingly, production systems must be adapted to the required market requirements within a short time.
With Module Type Package (MTP), users benefit from a high degree of flexibility in the modularization of systems. Resources can also be conserved because of the reusability of the modules. However, automating modules requires a lot of time, and integrating them into the POL is very complex. In times of a shortage of skilled workers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the respective specialists. Due to the high degree of manual intervention needed in the module creation process, the chance of errors increases.

Engineering made easy with the MTP DESIGNER

The MTP DESIGNER is a module engineering tool that enables the easy and time-saving realization of modules in a processing plant.

To this end, P&IDs can be automatically imported from process engineering tools and a program body, and services for module automation can be generated. Modules are engineered based on this. The modules are generated in accordance with the VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 standard.
In parallel to this, the local visualization on the controller is automatically generated based on the P&ID and, at the same time, all interfaces (OPC UA tags) are defined for later data transfer. The MTP file is then exported and transferred to the operator so that integration into the Process Orchestration Layer (POL) can take place.

Phoenix Contact has already tested the MTP DESIGNER successfully with various POL providers, including ABB (System 800xA), COPA-DATA (ZENON), Siemens (SIMATICS PCS neo), and Yokogawa (CI server).

Step 1: Integration of P&IDs

The first step in MTP DESIGNER includes the transfer of the P&IDs of your systems. In the following video, our expert Oleg Makarov shows you how you can quickly and easily import data from the P&ID tool into MTP DESIGNER. This is the basis for the project work in MTP DESIGNER.

Step 2: Creating a project

MTP DESIGNER enables the integration of MTP files into the POL.
In the next step, the PLC program generated in MTP DESIGNER is transferred to PLCnext Engineer. This means that the generated file can be used on all PLCnext Controls, e.g., on an AXC F2152. The tool also generates a local visualization of the modules, enabling easy module commissioning.

The module engineering tool product range includes two libraries that describe the functions and interfaces. The “Module Type Package FB” library contains various function blocks that can be used in PLCnext Engineer. As an extension to this, the “Module Type Package HMI” library can be integrated into PLCnext Engineer and the appropriate visualization of the MTP components can be created.

As a system manufacturer, we need a simple and reliable tool chain that supports us from creation right through to submitting the documentation. The MTP DESIGNER enables us to realize our systems consistently and MTP-compliantly, and to program the software for the controller. We also use PLCnext Control from Phoenix Contact as a part of this process.
