Connectivity in DC grids The development of DC grids in industry is a key to the energy transition. Use safe and reliable connection technology in your DC grid.
Innovative connection technology in DC grids
In contrast to an AC grid, the current does not oscillate in a DC grid. With direct current, the electrical charge therefore only flows in one direction and there are no zero crossovers. This means that under certain conditions, electric arcs can be generated in DC grids that are very difficult to extinguish. In the field of connection technology, this means that there are special requirements in some areas of application.
Transmit power and signals efficiently Innovative control cabinet wiring and field cabling
The connection technology is central to power generation, storage, and distribution in DC grids and is necessary for a holistic system. Our comprehensive range of solutions for control cabinet and field cabling is suitable for both AC and DC use. Terminal blocks, distribution blocks, connectors, as well as cables and lines with innovative, tool-free connection and locking technologies ensure extremely easy handling and save time and costs during installation.
Safely avoid electric arcs Particular requirements in DC grids
In DC grids, hazardous electric arcs can occur during switching and disconnection processes. These can cause damage to contacts and housings and, in the worst case, are a risk for the operator. The avoidance of electric arcs must therefore be ensured, especially where machines and systems are openly accessible. The new ArcZero connector, which actively extinguishes the electric arc via an electronic circuit directly in the connector, helps here. This not only ensures increased safety, but also makes handling during installation and maintenance easier. In the event of maintenance, devices can be replaced simply under load.
Flexible, high-performance cabling Modular interfaces with heavy-duty connectors
The demand for connectors with nominal currents starting from 40 A is increasing for the transmission and storage of renewable energy. In battery storage systems, classic CEE plug-in devices are increasingly being replaced by HEAVYCON industrial connectors. The lower contact resistance reduces power dissipation and saves electricity costs. By combining various different transmission media in the same housing, HEAVYCON modular also creates a highly compact interface. Push-in Technology enables a reliable, tool-free cable connection.
Design reliable power distribution Fixed connection with tool-unlockable installation connectors
With our QPD and PRC installation systems, you can design your power distribution effortlessly and flexibly. Depending on the application, choose between simple cable connections, convenient power distribution, and compact device connections. Robust housings and high degrees of protection up to IP69K enable reliable power transmission. Connector versions with a tool-removable locking system also provide you with security against the unintentional unplugging of plug-in connections.

Research and development We are characterized by innovative strength and future security
The use of DC grids in industry is just starting to take off. Therefore, technical hurdles and a lack of standards are currently still posing some challenges for our customers. In order to counteract this and promote the development of DC grids, Phoenix Contact has been involved in international research projects and committees such as the ODCA, Shift2DC, and HybSchaDC on the topic of direct current for years and is investing heavily in its own product development.
