INTERBUS function modules, PLC Relay modules
As INTERBUS devices, standard Siemens SIMATIC S5 PLCs can exchange information with a control system or another PLC through INTERBUS controller boards.
Control stations can be all PLCs or computers for which INTERBUS controller boards are available. Thus, INTERBUS, as a real time sensor/actuator bus, can simply and inexpensively connect PLCs and computers from different manufacturers using I/O signal addresses.
The exchange of signals using INTERBUS occurs in realtime, i.e., INTERBUS can also replace the large number of cable bundles still designed as parallel signal buses for the exchange of data over standard I/O modules with a protected bus protocol. The controller boards can be used in any of the PLC's I/O slots.
The advantages of this simple process communication handled on the I/O level:
- INTERBUS transmits data cyclically in realtime and with great data reliability,
- INTERBUS even connects PLCs in existing systems using a simple I/O network.
But data transmission using I/O channels in realtime means even more: The PLCs connected using INTERBUS can be provided with parameterization data from the master PLC as a function of process status, or can be easily synchronized.
In addition to data transfer, INTERBUS controller boards offer the same INTERBUS benefits, i.e. high transmission reliability on the data lines, excellent diagnostics and simple enabling or disabling of individual boards by means of appropriate interrupt processing.
In the event of an error, a board reset from the higher-level PLC (master) is possible at any time. The INTERBUS controller boards can be used with standard I/O modules in a control system.
