Phoenix Contact engineers teach sixth-grade science classes
Middletown, Pa. – Sixth-grade students at Middletown Area Middle School in Middletown, Pa., are racing cookie tins down ramps, experiencing the Van de Graaff generator, and building catapults and electric motors this week. As part of its Engineers Week Celebration (February 18 – 24), Phoenix Contact engineers are teaching science classes at the nearby school.
The interactive lessons combine theory and practice. The goal is to make science fun and inspire young people to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
“Since Phoenix Contact was founded more than 100 years ago, engineering has been core to our company’s success,” said Patricia Marrero, vice president of organizational development and talent acquisition. “We’ve partnered with the Middletown Area School District for well over a decade now, and it’s become one of the highlights of the year for both our engineers and the students at the school.”
Engineers Week promotes engineering and technology careers to young students and honors engineers’ contributions to society.
