MINT project for kindergartens and schools in Germany
MINT project for kindergartens and schools in Germany
The ing’enious network aims to inspire enthusiasm for technology among girls and boys.
Project goal
The “MINT with Mara and Felix” project is intended to instill initial experiences of technology for kindergarten children and thus introduce them to it.
Milestones
Developing guidelines for various experiments on MINT subjects
Creating the materials list
Configuring the materials box
Carrying out a pilot project with various kindergartens
24
experiments from various fields of mathematics, natural sciences, computer science, and technology
Guideline with experiments
Getting girls in particular interested in technology – this is the self-chosen mission of the women’s ing’enious network at Phoenix Contact. And it’s not just a mission, instead it’s even more: a real matter of the heart. Even at kindergarten age, the girls (and boys) are particularly enthusiastic and free of any reservations. This is how the technology-loving Phoenix Contact colleagues came up with the idea for the “MINT with Mara and Felix” project.
Together with Mara and Felix, the kindergarten children can gain insights into many different MINT subjects. They can try things out and find out what inspires them. The concept calls for a weekly experiment on a specific subject.
The main subjects are craftsmanship and construction, electricity and energy, information technology, natural sciences, waste disposal, mechanics, and magnetism. The children learn about gravity, various forms of energy, and go on a magnetic discovery tour, for example.
All tests are embedded in a child-friendly framework story about the experiences of an owl called Inga. As a MINT owl, Inga helps the children to find answers to their questions by researching and trying things out.
Reduced inequalities
Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls
We hope that by offering this, we will encourage children, and especially girls, to become involved with technology, and also perhaps later learn a profession in a technical environment.
