Webinar series: Introduction to explosion protection Benefit from our expertise and gain in-depth knowledge and practical insights into the various aspects of explosion protection.

Explosion protection

Welcome

Welcome to our comprehensive video series, “Introduction to explosion protection”. Our experts Katrin Petters and Heinrich Käuper explain the particularly important principles and legal requirements of explosion protection to you and guide you through practical examples.

In addition to the learning content, each video also contains a training section in which you can independently test and deepen your acquired knowledge. Subsequently, you will receive the solutions in written form or as an explanatory video, depending on the complexity of the topic.

Webinar series: Introduction to explosion protection

Introduction to the basics of explosion protection and legal framework conditions Video 1

This learning video teaches the basics of explosion protection, including the formation and prevention of explosions, explosion limits, and protective measures. It covers the European ATEX directives as well as the global IECEx system. In addition, standards for electrical explosion protection for manufacturers are explained.

Selection of equipment for secondary explosion protection Video 2

This video focuses on secondary explosion protection. When selecting devices, in accordance with the types of protection, the specialist users must analyze the type of danger and the duration and frequency of the danger. The type of danger is determined by examining the ignition source based on the ignition temperature and ignition energy. The temperature classes and the groups (gas and dust) are taken into consideration. In the case of the duration and frequency of the danger, the relationship between zone classification and the equipment category and equipment protection level is established.

Protection types and marking of equipment Video 3

This learning video presents various types of protection for secondary explosion protection, all of which are aimed at preventing the ignition of a potentially explosive atmosphere. Practical product examples are used to explain how equipment for use in potentially explosive areas in the EU is to be marked in accordance with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and the IEC/EN 60079-0 standard. In addition, you will find out how the marking of the devices has developed historically and what the current requirements are.

Basic principles of intrinsic safety and practical testing Video 4

This video focuses on the intrinsic safety type of protection that covers the entire circuit. The current and voltage are limited such that no sparks or thermal effects can ignite a potentially explosive atmosphere. Product examples illustrate how intrinsically safe circuits are designed and suitable devices selected. In particular, the standard-required proof of intrinsic safety and its special conditions is explained using practical examples.
