Compact remote control system for transformer station The GRÄPER Group specializes in supply stations, concrete bases, and sand-lime brick production. The company’s focus is on supply stations, including the necessary electrical engineering. Phoenix Contact supplied the GRÄPER Group with the remote control cabinet and the smartRTU compact remote control system for the transformer station in Hermeskeil, Germany.
Customer profile
GRÄPER Group
- Specialist in electrical engineering and innovative concrete building solutions for the protection of high-quality technical contents
- 750 engineers and skilled workers
- Total solution provider for modern supply stations
- Production of 4,500 stations per year, 75% of which are fully equipped and ready for connection
The challenge
An industrial company has increased its production capacity. A new, high-availability grid connection is required in the grid operator’s 10 kV grid.
Due to the amount of energy required, the customer therefore needs an appropriately dimensioned transformer with a corresponding grid protection concept.
- Remote control technology for remote control of the incoming cable panels
- Transmission of measured values (energy consumption and feed-in)
- Protection engineering
- Transfer protection
Solution
Innovative remote control technology
With the standardized control solution, which supports modular extension, transformer stations are automated in a particularly intelligent way. The individual versions make it possible to perform various functions, from monitoring alone to the complex control of the system. The smartRTU technology platform is a modular remote terminal solution for various fields of application around power grids. It enables the consistent processing and provision of status and event time information. This is realized through predefined functions and simple parameterization via the web interface. Programming knowledge and programs are therefore unnecessary. The modular structure allows a wide range of binary and analog information to be input and output.
In Phoenix Contact, the GRÄPER Group has found a partner that is innovative and technically well-positioned in the field of protection technology, remote control technology, and control technology, with whom we can effectively complement our solutions in the field of energy technology.
Summary
Partnership and cooperation
The challenges associated with digitalization, automation, and system monitoring will continue to grow in the energy sector in the future. As a total solution provider for modern supply stations, the GRÄPER Group will also inevitably be confronted with this. Tailor-made and standardized solutions for different customer requirements for the utility industry and infrastructure are therefore necessary. Phoenix Contact has the perfect answer to such challenges and offers an intelligent remote terminal solution in the form of the smartRTU. Working in partnership, we develop solutions for modern transformer stations. Further projects are also planned for the future.
