Phoenix Contact conducts this seminar as a course provider as part of the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program.

After successfully passing the final examination, participants receive the recognised Functional Safety Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate and are listed by name as FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) for Machinery - CE Practice on the website of TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH (www.tuvasi.com). The certificate is an internationally recognized proof of qualification in the industry that demonstrates the knowledge required for the practical implementation of the requirements for the safety of machinery.

Course content

Day 1

Introduction to the Machinery Directive

  • Conformity assessment procedure
  • Application of EN ISO 13849-1
  • Implementation of the requirements with the support of Sistema
  • Technical protective measures (EN ISO 13855, EN ISO 13857)
  • Practical implementation of the technical measures for functional safety in the
  • safety life cycle for machinery

Day 2

Phase 0: Risk assessment of the machine

  • Determination of the acceptable residual risk
  • Determining the machine limits
  • Identifying hazards
  • Assessing and evaluating the risks
  • Definition of suitable risk parameters
  • Risk reduction through suitable measures (constructive, technical, indicative)
  • Determining the required safety integrity (SIL/PL)
  • Documentation of the results

Day 3

Phase 1: Safety planning

  • Creating the project description
  • Strategy for achieving functional safety
  • Defining measures
  • Planning the safety-relevant documentation
  • Planning activities and resources
  • Planning verification and validation

Day 4

Phase 4: Realisation

  • Installation of the planned security hardware
  • Parameterisation of the safe devices
  • Programming the safety-related application software in
  • accordance with the software specifications

Phase 6: Code simulation

  • Creation / inspection of a test specification for code simulation
  • Code simulation of the safety functions

Phase 7: Validation

  • Functional testing of the safety functions
  • Summarising all results of the inspections and tests in the verification and validation report
  • Configuration management: Checking all documents and project files and summarising them in the
  • configuration management plan

FS Technician (machinery)-Certificate

  • The certificate will be issued by TÜV Rheinland
    Phoenix Contact is recognised course provider

  • The "FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland)" certificate confirms that:
    -the holder has participated continuously in a training referring to a specified topic
    -the exam of this training has been passed
    -special knowledge in the according application area has been achieved
    -the participant has obtained the title "FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland)" in the according application area of the training.

FS Technician (machinery)- Prerequisites

Participants of the FS Technician trainings shall fulfil the following requirements

  • proof of further technical education or vocational technical training or reference letter of employer confirming equivalent experiences and responsibilities
  • 2 years of work experience in the acc. application area (for example machinery or in safety instrumented systems)
  • Persons who do not have the according business experience may participate in the training as well as the exam
  • If they pass the exam successfully the FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate will be issued to them as soon as the necessary 2 years of business experience are achieved.

FS Technician (machinery) - Validity

The FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate is valid for 5 years

The validity of the FS Technician (TÜV Rheinland) certificate can be extended after 5 years. Holders of this certificate will be contacted by ]TÜV Rheinland by email and will have to forward the following documents to TÜV Rheinland:

  • An official letter from their employer in which their current and continuous work in the specified area of certification (SIS) is described and/or confirmed.
  • a form sheet filled in with all necessary information describing projects which have been carried out during the last 5 years of their professional life describing the gathered experience in functional safety of the past year.
