CHARX connect – charging sockets for charging stations and home chargers

Charging sockets for charging stations and home charging points

The CHARX connect modular infrastructure charging sockets are mounted in AC charging stations and home chargers. They enable mode 3 vehicle battery charging via 1- or 3-phase charging cables with charging power ratings of up to 26 kW. Type 2 AC charging connectors in accordance with IEC 62196 fit in the AC charging sockets.
With our new modular system, you can choose which components you want to use for the design of your home charger or charging station.

LED status indicator in the protective cover of the infrastructure charging socket

Choose whether a round or square protective cover better fits the target design of your home charger or charging station. An LED status indicator integrated in the protective cover can be selected as an option. This allows the end user to see the status of the charging point at first glance.

The RGB LEDs can be controlled freely, with glowing, flashing, and pulsing in all RGB colors possible. The precise light guide technology also ensures a homogeneous light pattern with optimum diffusion.

Your individual logo
For an alternative to the Phoenix Contact logo, we are also happy to manufacture the protective cover with your logo on request: either imprinted or as a UV- and weather-resistant plastic label.

Infrastructure charging socket shutter

The shutter ensures touch protection of all electrical contacts on the AC charging socket. Standards in some countries, such as Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland, require touch protection. Operation is simple and intuitive, without turning or pushing – inserting the charging connector opens the protective screen.

The touch protection of all power and signal contacts increases electrical safety and also protects against vandalism and moisture. Our shutter is compatible with all type 2 charging sockets and protective covers from Phoenix Contact.

  • Touch protection in accordance with IEC 61851-1, IEC 62196-1, IEC 62196-2
  • Degree of protection: IPXXD

Infrastructure charging socket, temperature sensor technology, and locking actuator

Choose how your infrastructure charging socket should be equipped: with or without temperature monitoring and with 3- or 4-position locking actuator.

Integrated temperature monitoring
With precise temperature sensor technology directly at the power contacts, the charging process can be interrupted in the event of overheating to protect users against danger and the charging station against damage.

Locking actuator
The charging socket is available with either a three-position or four-position locking actuator and corresponding connecting cable.

Silver-plated contacts
The silver-plated surfaces of the power and signal contacts ensure efficient power transmission, optimum corrosion protection, and a long service life.

Plug-in connecting cables for the infrastructure charging socket

By choosing the separately available cable set, you can determine the charging power of your charging socket. The plug-in connecting cables simplify installation and subsequent replacement of the charging socket in the event of maintenance.

Choose between a single phase and three-phase cable set and between a charging current of 20 A and 32 A. In addition, you can decide which cable length - between 0.3 m and 2 m - you need for your application. Longer cables are possible on request.

Integrated LED display For intuitive operation

Users of your charging station can see the availability and status at a glance with the colored LED display integrated in the protective cover. The LEDs are freely controlled by the charging controller via pulse width modulation (PWM). Glowing, flashing, and pulsating in all RGB colors are possible. This allows you to configure an individual color value for each state of your charging point that matches your corporate design. Here is an example:

Type 2 charging socket glows green
Glowing green: Charging point is free and ready for charging
Type 2 charging socket pulses/glows blue
Pulsating blue: charging in progress, glowing blue: charging completed
Type 2 charging socket flashes red
Flashing red: Charging process interrupted due to a fault
Type 2 charging socket glows orange
Glowing orange: Charging point is reserved for a user

Example illustration: Charging with alternating current in accordance with mode 3

AC charging in accordance with mode 3, case B What exactly does that mean?

In case B of charging mode 3, the charging station has a charging socket instead of a fixed charging cable. In this case, connecting and charging a vehicle requires a mobile charging cable with a vehicle charging connector and infrastructure charging plug, which is usually carried along in the trunk.

Most often, public charging stations are built according to case B. Case B is only permissible for the European type 2 standard and the Chinese GB/T standard, not for the American type 1 standard.
