The North American Charging Standard in accordance with SAE J3400 will replace the type 1 CCS charging standard in accordance with SAE J1772 in the long term. The switch to NACS will therefore play a central role in the electrification of the transport sector and the ramp up of charging infrastructure in the USA, Canada and Mexico. As a specialist in e-mobility charging technology, we supply SAE-compliant and UL-certified NACS charging cables that meet the highest demands – from AC charging right through to high-power charging.
Our NACS charging cables are characterized by their visually appealing and ergonomic design.
A special feature of the NACS DC charging cables is the traditional Phoenix Contact connector design with offset handle. This not only enables safer and more comfortable handling, but also ensures thermal decoupling from the heating surfaces, further increasing user safety.
The NACS AC charging cables are also particularly easy to handle due to their compact dimensions and low weight, combined with a solid feel.
In accordance with UL standard 2251, our NACS AC and NACS DC charging connectors are equipped with touch protection, which meets IPXXB degree of protection. This touch protection is implemented by protruding pins within the power contacts. Electrical accidents caused by inadvertently touching the contacts are thus prevented.
What makes our touch protection special are the fully molded plastic caps of the pins, which ensure a secure and permanent hold. This prevents the caps from getting stuck inside the vehicle charging inlet and resulting in costly failure of the charging station.
Our NACS charging connector are available from stock with an embossed Phoenix Contact logo and an unassembled cable in one of the available standard lengths.
Upon request, we provide a wide range of services for the customization and assembly of your AC and DC charging cables – tailored to your branding and assembly requirements:
Our 100% standard-compliant NACS AC charging cables from the CHARX connect eco family deliver proven industrial quality and impressive maximum safety. The robust NACS charging connectors are easy to handle and enable AC charging with up to 80 A.

Our development teams are working day in, day out on further product innovations for the North American Charging Standard. Here is an overview of when you can expect various NACS products from Phoenix Contact:
NACS stands for North American Charging Standard, was developed by Tesla, has been standardized as SAE J3400 since the end of 2023 and combines the AC and DC charging of electric vehicles in one compact connector design. NACS is being adopted by almost all car manufacturers for the US market, such as Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Rivian, and Volvo, and is also considered to be the future standard for charging infrastructure in North America, especially in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. For example, the Electrify America and Electrify Canada charging networks are being switched over to NACS.
AC charging cables with NACS connectors enable electric vehicles to be charged with AC and DC electricity via NACS charging inlets in accordance with SAE J3400. The NACS charging cables can transmit voltages of up to 1,000 V and currents of 500 A or more. The charging connector is more compact and ergonomic than a CCS type 1 connector and a NACS-to-CCS1 adapter is not needed to charge electric vehicles with a NACS charging inlet. Phoenix Contact provides robust, UL 2251-certified NACS charging cables designed for industrial, demanding use.
A NACS charging inlet is the vehicle-side interface that enables charging with NACS connectors in accordance with SAE J3400. It supports both AC and DC charging and is designed for high voltages of up to 1,000 V and currents of 800 A or more. NACS charging inlets, such as those from Phoenix Contact, are certified to UL 2251 and IEC 62196-1 and feature high degrees of protection such as IP67 and IP6K9K. Their compact design and high load capacity mean that they are particularly suitable for the latest generation of electric vehicles and for future high-performance applications such as utility vehicles.
As an experienced, long-standing specialist in e-mobility charging technology, Phoenix Contact provides UL 2251-certified and SAE J3400-compliant NACS connectors and charging inlets for charging electric vehicles with AC and DC electricity. Charging infrastructure and vehicle manufacturers benefit from particularly high quality, safety, and durability. Robust, ergonomic designs, a high current carrying capacity and customizing options ensure reliable technical solutions and provide users with a smooth, convenient, and first-class charging experience.
