Reliable power supply in railway infrastructure The operating voltage range must be strictly observed for some signal technology components. Find out more now in our application example for safe railway operations.
Application
There are safety-related signal technology components whose operational safety is compromised by excessively high supply voltage, as this can lead to signal distortion. The operating voltage range of these devices must therefore not be exceeded under any circumstances. In this context, however, an overvoltage does not refer to a transient overvoltage in the kV range, but rather to overvoltages in the percentage range. For power supplies that supply the safety-related modules of control command and signaling technology, the magnitude of the output voltage has to be taken into consideration as an aspect for safety documentation. Errors must be prevented by implementing relevant precautionary measures. Separate, permanent voltage monitoring can meet these requirements, but is very complex.
The solution
Supplying railway equipment in the operating voltage range
To virtually eliminate the possibility of failure, the Phoenix Contact portfolio includes power supplies with dual surge protection at the output. This allows the power supplies to deliver secondary-side voltage of 24 V, for example. The ability to check the status of the devices at any time is another advantage.
