To protect the electronics against lightning and transient overvoltages, surge protective devices are installed as lightning protection. Because lightning protection is looped directly into the signal circuits, it is imperative that certain safety aspects are taken into consideration. The surge protective devices must work for all signal lines in an impact-free and impedance- neutral manner. The status indicator must function independently of the signal status and the power necessary for this should not be drawn from the signal path. Residual currents that jeopardize operations in any way are not permitted for this. Installing and removing the surge protective devices must never lead to an interruption of the signal circuit. In simple terms, ongoing operations should not be affected. All parameters relevant for creating the safety documentation must be made available by the manufacturer. Space-saving connection Transmission of the traction energy of a rail vehicle For the transmission of the traction energy of a train, the mechanical installation must meet the most stringent requirements in terms of safety and reliability. Furthermore, parameters such as low contact resistance and high electric strength are of crucial importance to the quality of the electrical connection. The motor disconnect point, as the interface between the traction converter and drive system, plays an important role here. For this complex task, Phoenix Contact provides tried-and-tested bolt connection terminal blocks with a complete range of accessories. In addition, bolt terminal blocks for standard applications in rail vehicles, such as auxiliary units, battery storage systems, air conditioning and ventilation systems, and lighting are also available. Here, right from the construction phase, components are required that enable maximum flexibility at the installation location, are easy to use once installed, and are very easy to maintain during operation. Function terminals are used for switching tasks such as signal conditioning, to protect circuits, or for disconnection, testing, and measurement purposes. Function terminals from the CLIPLINE complete product range are versatile and available in a wide range of variants. Terminal blocks with an electronic component, such as a diode or resistor, are used frequently here. This is either integrated in the terminal block or inserted in the component holder on the outside. An uninterruptible power supply may be required for certain loads, such as controllers or the emergency lighting. A power supply converts the three- phase current into 24 V DC. Downstream, an uninterruptible power supply with a lithium- ion battery acts as an energy storage device or, alternatively, a maintenance-free high- performance capacitor storage device is used. Electronic circuit breakers protect the individual load circuits against overload and short circuit. The selective shutdown of faulty paths protects the supply voltage for parallel loads. Tripped circuit breakers can be reset remotely via a reset input. Phoenix Contact offers a solution for this application in the form of a modular system.
