Media converters for Ethernet networks Secure communication via fiber

Ethernet media converter with cable

For high-level immunity to interference and long transmission ranges in industrial applications, media converters transparently convert Ethernet data to fiber optics. Depending on the device and cable, they bridge distances of up to 80 km at data rates of up to 1 Gbps.

Choose among the range of functions suitable for your application and various fiberglass interfaces. The unique mounting accessories also offer particularly flexible installation options.

Your advantages

  • Broad portfolio for every application
  • Gigabit communication – ideal for high data throughput applications
  • Compact design and flexible installation
  • Low latency for applications with real-time protocols
  • Redundant power supply

Media converters for Ethernet networks

The product family: Media converters for every application

The comprehensive portfolio of state-of-the-art media converters is divided into three product series:

MC 1000 series: The Ethernet media converters of this class are designed for applications with basic requirements. They offer you simple and cost-effective integration of fiber optic technology into your industrial Ethernet networks.

MC 1000T series: These media converters meet advanced requirements from applications in demanding industrial environments. The devices are equipped with a metal housing and feature, among other things, an extended temperature range and a redundant power supply. Additional DNV approval enables use in shipbuilding.

MC 1000E series: The media converters in this category are suitable for applications with requirements for special approvals. These include potentially explosive areas and power supply and distribution applications. The approval package with IECEx, ATEX, UL HazLoc, as well as IEC 61850 and IEEE 1613 makes the devices ready for worldwide use.

Media converters for time-critical applications on a DIN rail

Realize short latency times

Media converters for time-critical applications

The MC 1000, MC 1000T, and MC 1000E series devices can be switched automatically between standard store-and-forward mode with auto negotiation and cut-through operating mode. This makes it possible to achieve very short delays (latency). These devices are therefore ideal for applications with time-critical Ethernet protocols such as PROFINET IRT, Powerlink, EtherCAT, and Sercos III.

Media converters with WDM interface for single-fiber transmission

Save costs through single-fiber transmission

Media converters for single-fiber transmission

Media converters with a WDM interface enable a full duplex FO connection with just one FO fiber. These devices are ideally suited to rotating applications with optical slip rings, such as in wind turbine generators. Here, they connect the rotating hub and the motor nacelle. With the WDM media converters, it is now possible to connect optical slip rings using a single fiber. They are several times more cost-effective than slip rings with multiple fibers. FO fibers can also be spared when transmitting without an optical slip ring. This enables more communication paths on the same fiber-optic cable.

Five mounting versions of media converters on a DIN rail

Flexible mounting saves space in the control cabinet

Flexible installation and easy commissioning

Using a unique mounting accessory, you can mount the Ethernet media converters flat on the DIN rail. As a result, the devices can also be used in small or flat control cabinets where space is at a premium. You are free to choose the outlet direction of the connections.

The media converters are also plug-and-play-capable and do not need to be configured. A single DIP switch enables the link fault pass-through function to be enabled as required. This means that the devices can be operated by any user and are easy to install. Furthermore, status LEDs on the front and side provide basic information on the connection statuses at a glance. This means that an interrupted connection, e.g., due to a faulty cable, can be diagnosed quickly. Simply unpack, connect, and use.
