Mobile storage and fast charging solution (reference SBOW)
Mobile storage and fast charging solution
Mobile battery storage systems with an integrated fast charging function enable a reliable power and charging supply even when the grid connection is disrupted or delayed. They are particularly suitable for applications where the energy infrastructure needs to be expanded flexibly and in line with demand. In a collaborative partnership, Phoenix Contact and SBOW have developed such a system into a technically perfected series solution.
The challenge
Growing demands on mobile charging and energy infrastructure
The rapid ramp-up of e-mobility is leading to a significant increase in demand for high-performance charging infrastructure. Particularly at temporary locations such as construction sites and events, and in regions with insufficient grid connections, operators are faced with the challenge of providing flexible energy and charging solutions that are available at short notice. Traditional, stationary grid connections are often not available here, and setting one up would incur considerable costs and take a great deal of time.
At the same time, mobile systems have particularly high technical requirements. They have to be compact, robust and transportable, while meeting the same performance and safety requirements as stationary systems.
High charging powers, a stable power supply, intelligent control and protection concepts, and the safe integration of powerful battery storage systems are essential. In addition, changing operating conditions, mechanical stresses due to transport and operation, and different climatic environments demand that the components use are highly reliable and failsafe. The requirements on scalability and flexibility are also high. Mobile systems must be able to be adapted quickly and reliably to different application scenarios. These range from off-grid fast charging systems for individual electric vehicles to temporary power supplies for complete charging parks or heavy machinery.
Against this background, the central challenge was to integrate complex hardware and software modules from stationary high-performance charging technology into a robust, transportable overall system. At the same time, the joint step from a technological idea to a robust, production-ready solution had to be successfully implemented.
We have developed a clear solution for every hurdle. This close exchange helped us to turn our idea into a resilient series solution.

Successful cooperation with SBOW
Innovation partner for mobile storage and fast charging systems
SBOW, based in Spain, is a specialist in mobile storage and fast charging systems. The company is part of the Diggia Group, a leading provider of sustainable energy and mobility solutions. The company develops holistic solutions for flexible, off-grid, or grid-relieving power supplies and is thus addressing the growing requirements of e-mobility in particular. The company's goal is to enable ultra-fast charging anytime and anywhere and thus make high-performance charging infrastructure available regardless of the limits of classic grid connections. SBOW relies on strong technology partnerships to bring these sophisticated concepts to life. The SBOW iFlex mobile solution is the result of a multi-year, iterative development process. The cooperation with Phoenix Contact in Spain proved to be a decisive factor in the success of the project.
Technology cooperation on an equal footing
The solution
Mobile battery storage system with integrated fast charging function
Together with Phoenix Contact, SBOW has realized a mobile storage and fast charging solution that combines powerful battery storage systems with state-of-the-art DC fast charging technology. The system was developed specifically for applications where the classic charging infrastructure has reached its limits. SBOW contributed its system and application expertise, while Phoenix Contact contributed its extensive expertise in industrial automation, e-mobility, and safe power infrastructure. The DC-coupled system design forms the technological basis of the SBOW iFlex. This architecture enables the optimum coordination of charging power and storage capacity and ensures particularly efficient operation. With a charging power of up to 240 kW and an integrated battery storage capacity of up to 180 kWh, the system meets high performance and availability requirements. It also enables two vehicles to be charged at the same time.
Together with SBOW iFlex, we have succeeded in transferring proven high-power charging technology from the stationary environment into a robust, transportable overall system. Proven series components from Phoenix Contact have been combined intelligently. CCS charging cables and CCS charging inlets, bidirectional power modules, control and relay technology, and vehicle-side interfaces have been combined to form a consistent and safe system architecture. Vibration-resistant battery pole and PCB connectors ensure low-loss power transmission within the integrated battery storage system. This contributes significantly to the long service life and ease of servicing in the field.
The cooperation between SBOW and Phoenix Contact deliberately went beyond a classic supplier relationship. The strengths of both companies were bundled in a targeted manner through the collaborative exchange. Close coordination during the development phase and a shared understanding of market requirements and practicality formed the basis for the success of the project. The result is a powerful, modular overall system that has already proven itself in real-life use and is setting new standards for mobile energy storage and fast charging solutions.
We use components from Phoenix Contact in the main systems: from DC/DC and bidirectional AC/DC power modules through to controllers and connectivity. This has accelerated the integration and increased reliability in the field.
