Innovative voltage system at Ritter Starkstromtechnik

Largest electrical installation company

Ritter Starkstromtechnik GmbH & Co based in Dortmund, Germany, employs over 550 people and is one of the largest electrical installation companies. The range of products and services offered by the company covers four areas:

  • Connecting large networks in buildings and plants using traditional installation technology.
  • Organization and control of technical processes through the use of customized automation solutions.
  • Switchgear for power applications.
  • Safe voltage distribution using medium and low-voltage switchgear for industry and power supply.

Application

Medium and low-voltage switchgear for industry and power supply are planned, developed, and produced at Ritter's site in Olfen, Germany. They are either supplied as type-tested standard systems or a customer-specific special version.

The innovative GT 4 medium-voltage system is particularly noteworthy. Thanks to the special design features of the power section, the 31.5 KA version is just 600 mm wide.

The innovation in the control part of the system lies in the QUICKON fast connection technology from Phoenix Contact.

Solution

IDC displacement connection

Fast and reliable: IDC displacement connection

With QUICKON fast connection terminal blocks, it is no longer necessary to strip conductors or fit ferrules.

After cutting the conductor to length, contact is made by simply levering it in using a standard screwdriver. With terminal block types with a nominal cross section of 1.5 and 2.5 mm², conductors ranging from 0.34 to 2.5 mm² can be connected.

In addition to feed-through and ground terminal blocks, multi-position TWIN terminal blocks are also available. They can be used for fast potential distribution.

Summary

A wide range of switching tasks can be performed using isolating plugs, fuse plugs, and component plugs on basic terminal blocks.

Furthermore, QUICKON modular terminal blocks are available in a hybrid version. The fast connection is combined with a screw or spring-cage connection. This enables the user to freely select the connection technology according to the customer's requirements or in accordance with regulations.

QUICKON fast connection technology exceeds the requirements of the prevailing standards, e.g., EN 60998, EN 60947, and is approved for use in the Ex e area according to the ATEX directive.
