Scalable and certified software for safe applications

The safe programming and runtime systems from Phoenix Contact enable manufacturers of safe controllers to develop a complete system according to the requirements of IEC 61508.

The certified software components cover the entire range of safe applications according to IEC 61508 for SIL 2 and SIL 3, from small safety controllers to complex safety-relevant systems.

They create and process native machine code, which is specifically created for the CPU architecture used. This enables you to develop extremely fast safety controllers or even to use very cost-effective microcontrollers.

With regard to operation and range of functions, the SAFEPROG safe programming system is specially designed for the requirements of SIL 3 safety technology. Safe programming on the PC is ensured by numerous forward-thinking and fault-detecting measures. Clear identification of safe functions and function blocks as well as non-safe variables increases safety.

SAFEPROG enables you to create your safety application in IEC 61131 with function blocks, ladder diagram or text with Structured Text (ST) as the Limited Variability Language (LVL). This reduces development and certification effort thanks to programming within the context of your sector standard.

Parameterization tool for devices with pre-defined safety logic

Safe drives, multifunctional safety relays or safe sensors are typical fields of application for parameterization tasks. Safe parameterization must satisfy the requirements of SIL 3 from the user interface through to the processing of parameters.

The right tool for these applications is SAFEGRID, which is integrated into software applications as a component. The safe parameters can be individually specified via device descriptions in any format.

SAFEGRID is an integral part of our SAFEPROG safe programming system. This guarantees compatibility between the safe, parameterizable devices and the programmable safety controllers at all times.

PLCopen-Safety-certified function blocks for safety technology

The use of standardized and certified safety function blocks considerably simplifies the configuration and certification of a machine or system.

In combination with the safe programming system, Phoenix Contact offers a library with 20 certified function blocks according to PLCopen Safety Specification Part 1 with the additions of Part 3. This contains all important safety functions such as emergency stop, safety door, two-hand control, external device monitoring, and mode selector switch. Extended and additional safety functions can be programmed in user-defined function blocks. Further blocks of the Specification Part 4, Extensions for Presses, are also available.

Universal diverse architecture – the safe technology platform from Phoenix Contact

The SAFEOS safe runtime system is based on a two-channel, diverse, and high-performance architecture. Thanks to manufacturer-independent certification, it can be used for SIL 2 and SIL 3 applications on different CPU architectures, with or without operating system. SAFEOS can be used in the core of a configurable safety relay with very low resource consumption as well as in high-performance safety controllers or robot controllers.

  • The scalability of the SAFEOS runtime system makes it easy to integrate a safe controller.
  • Its highly diverse nature means that one- or two-channel hardware can be used.
