Topic: IIoT Directions and Trends

Jim Bland is Vice President and General Manager of Tridium in the Honeywell Home and Building Technologies (HBT) group.  Prior to joining Honeywell, Jim led Snapdata.io, a start-up company that designs and develops sensors, data communications hardware, and analytics software.

Jim has managed several national and global businesses, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 enterprises such as Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He has successfully led acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, turnarounds and transitions, and has designed new products, developed marketing and account plans to propel revenue and deliver profitable growth.

Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in politics and French from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and a master’s in business administration from Harvard Graduate School of Business in Boston, Mass.

Topic: Cybersecurity – Threats and Best Practices for Building Automation Systems

Kevin T. Smith is the Chief Architect for Tridium, and is focused on Cybersecurity in the Internet of Things. The co-author of seven technology books from John Wiley and Sons and Wrox Press, Smith has 25 years of experience focused on building highly-secure, innovative solutions for customers. He has written articles on various topics related to the intersection of security and technology in publications such as InfoQ,  CTOVision, and SOAWorld, and has been featured in ComputerWorld magazine.

Smith has led technology workshops and has presented as a featured speaker at numerous industry conferences, including the RSA Security Conference, IoT North America, JavaOne, The Semantic Technology Conference, ApacheCon, and The Intelligent Buildings Conference (IBCon).

He holds a number of professional information security certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), and also holds a post-master's graduate certificate in Information Systems Security.

John Petze is a partner at SkyFoundry, the developers of SkySpark™— an analytics platform for building, energy, and equipment data.

John has over 30 years of experience in building automation, energy management, and M2M, having served in senior level positions for manufacturers of hardware and software products including: President & CEO of Tridium, VP Product Development for Andover Controls, and Global Director of Sales for the Cisco Systems Smart and Connected Buildings group. He is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers.

At SkyFoundry, he helps owners take advantage of advanced operational analytics to create truly intelligent buildings.

Karl started his career with IBM and has worked as:

  • Director of Facilities at Sensormatic Electronics
  • VP of Engineering at Integrated Building Technologies

Currently, he is CEO of EnergyIQ, LLC., in Boca Raton, Fla.—a leading IIoT control system integration business supporting high-profile clients worldwide.

Karl has developed a highly respected and successful organization specializing in building infrastructure technologies, data centers, renewable power, micro-grid control, and product innovation.

He is a Penn State graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and acts as General Engineering Curriculum Advisor at Penn State Hazelton Campus.

Topic: Understanding the impact of cyber security risk assessment on the IT and OT communities

  • The focus will be on those aspects of the cybersecurity lifecycle related to risk assessment in relation to buildings and associated infrastructure. We’ll discuss availability versus reliability, as well as the important vocabulary differences between IT and OT personnel.

Dave Gunter is the Director of Cybersecurity Services at exida, LLC, with responsibility for the cybersecurity solutions end users' business within exida. In this role, Dave leads the market-facing solutions and solutions development for ICS cybersecurity.

Dave has responsibility for understanding the technology analytics, market, and end users’ engineering and operations requirements for the cybersecurity space. This includes industry standards participation and development, detailed understanding of threat, risk and vulnerability analysis while applying a pragmatic set of solutions and technology for the end users community.

Dave has over 25 years of professional experience in the process automation industry. He previously worked for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., as Global Manager of Process Automation Development and Support. In this role, he worked with engineering and operations automation teams and was responsible for the Global Technology Team for Process Automation which included PAS (Process Automation Systems), Control Hardware (Valves and Instruments), and Analytical Systems.

He played a key role in the cybersecurity efforts cyber in the SIS, as well as contributing to various cybersecurity industry standards. Dave also participated in various ICS manufactures advisors boards. He also served as the North American Generated Gases Controls Manager for Air Products, in which he was responsible for leading the Generated Gas team into all their project execution activities.

Dave has also served in leadership roles for several process automation and instrumentation corporations including Leeds & Northrup and Cemtech (Yokogawa Sales Representative), enabling him to foster a customer-centric approach with a focus on customer value and pragmatic approach to business solutions.

Your day will end with a roundtable discussion and Q&A session, followed by a Phoenix Contact facility tour, which will include our manufacturing, design, logistics center, and power generation facilities.
