Ethernet network isolators and molded connectors for fault-free control systems.
Train bus
The top control level, or train bus, spans the entire train and enables consistent data communication throughout all parts of the train. As the data rates are moderate here, communication is implemented via category 5 Ethernet. The control level is relevant for safety and approval and its availability must be continuously ensured. As such, high demands are placed on the cabling and other infrastructure components.
Vehicle bus
The second level, the vehicle bus, is connected to the train bus and provides the control level. On this level, the train functions are controlled as well as safety-related monitoring of brakes, doors or air conditioning, for example. The requirements on this level are equal to those of the train bus, in terms of safety, approval, and availability. This is often technically implemented based on category 5 PROFINET.
Auxiliary systems
In trains, there are other systems that are not relevant to safety or approval. They are connected via gateways in the vehicle. Among these are languages and information (onboard radio or speed), monitoring (cameras) or media on board (Internet). Availability and demand of higher data rates are key here – they are not relevant to safety or approvals. As such, 10 Gigabit Ethernet in category 6A is often used.
Molded connectors from the M12 RAIL series by Phoenix Contact provide a reliable cabling system for all control levels in the train
As such, the suitability of the plastic materials and cables in terms of their behavior in fire is particularly taken into account. These materials fulfil the requirements of EN 45545-2 and can therefore be used without problems in the train.
As a partner of the rail industry, Phoenix Contact executes molded M12 cables, that are fully electrically tested. Expensive, time-consuming troubleshooting in the rail vehicle is not required, as is usually the case in manual assembly.
The FL ISOLATOR establishes electrical isolation within the copper-guided Ethernet data cable. Immunity to interference in industrial applications is increased considerably using the high-quality isolators up to 4 kV.
Network components and expensive devices are protected from differences in potential. The possible transmission rates are 10/100 Mbps. The passive device can be used immediately, without power supply. As such, the FL ISOLATOR is integrated directly before the device to be protected or directly before and after the vehicle couplings in the network. This prevents there being different potentials between the individual train compartments via the Ethernet cable.
