Dining in the Dark

We live in a world that is overwhelmed by sensory stimulation and the focus on visual presentation often affects our perspective by what we see. Have you ever though how the world will be like for a visually handicap person? On 18th and 25th Oct 2013, Phoenix Contact brought our customers and staff to an unconventional dining experience – Dining in the Dark. This event was carried out in support of the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH), our adopted charity organization for 2013. SAVH is the national voluntary welfare organisation whose aim is to promote the needs and interests of the visually impaired, and to help the visually impaired help themselves by acquiring new skills and gaining self-reliance to cope with the integration into society.

During this event, participants went through a culinary journey through taste, smell, touch and sound, in total darkness. They were guided and served a four-course dinner in complete darkness by visually-handicapped individuals who have been specially trained to offer guidance and reassurance to sighted guests. It is a truly human experience when the roles are reversed and the blind become their eyes, opening minds to a deeper consciousness. This affinity leads to mutual trust and respect, and a realization of the value of the visually-handicapped work and overall ability to carry out tasks.  Prior to the dinner, the customers were also treated with a 20-minutes massage by specially trained certified visually-handicapped masseurs.

This unique sensory experience had left many with an unforgettable evening, allowing the participants to completely re-evaluate perception of the world around us. This is what the participants got to say.

Charity Car Wash

As part of our effort to contribute back to society, Phoenix Contact (SEA) organised a charity car wash to raise funds for our chosen charity, the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped, SAVH.

On that day, 22nd Nov, we have washed a total of 101 cars and raised a total of $6,735.10!

Thank you to all the sponsors and support! We couldn't have done it without you!
