Technical guidelines and video formats

The multimedia presence of Phoenix Contact was important in the past and will play an even greater role in the future.
In order to continue with the production of professional films and establish and maintain a future-oriented film archive, the following video formats are defined.
The objective is to achieve optimum film quality for all media that meets the continually increasing requirements of the modern media world.

Production format

  • High definition 720p25 or 1080p25
  • (25 full frames per second with 1280x720 or 1920x1080 pixels
  • aspect ratio 16:9 or 1.78:1)
  • 35 mm film adapter with fixed focal length lenses


  • The format for all filming is 720p50 AVC-Intra Codec @ 100 Mbit.
  • The format for slow-motion filming is 720p32 AVC-Intra Codec @ 100 Mbit.
  • The format for one-off contributions such as Infovision, Forum recording, training films, etc. is 720/25P AVC-Intra Codec with 50 Mbit.
  • Computer animations are generated in 720p50 format.

Post production

  • The raw material is coded in Apple ProRes 4:2:2 HQ or SQ according to the production format and archived in line with requirements for post production quality.
  • All archived digital and analog video tapes are digitized as Apple ProRes 4:2:2 SQ files and stored in the archive.
  • All computer animation masters are coded in Apple ProRes 4:2:2 or Apple ProRes 4:4:4 with alpha channel and stored in the archive.


  • All film masters are available in Apple ProRes 4:2:2 SQ or HQ format.
  • The various distribution formats such as FLV, WMV, MOV, MPEG, etc. are optimized by us, adapted to our requirements, and this is specified until further notice.
