Phoenix Contact aims to surpass 2 billion euros turnover in 2016

Frank Stührenberg, Chairman of the Executive Board of Phoenix Contact

“In 2015 we achieved our planned sales growth of eight percent, so we're performing very well compared to the rest of the industry,” revealed Frank Stührenberg, Chairman of the Executive Board, at a press conference, expressing his satisfaction with Phoenix Contact's economic development last year.

The Group's turnover has therefore risen to 1.91 billion euros. “But we are aware that almost half of this growth is down to the fluctuating effects of the exchange rate,” Stührenberg explains. “We will therefore be keeping a close eye on 'real' market growth this year so that we can adapt our investment decisions accordingly.” In 2015, the industrial electronics manufacturer invested 135 million euros in the further development of the Group. In addition, 500 new employees joined the Group in the last year.

This year Phoenix Contact expects to achieve a moderate growth in sales of between five and seven percent. Stührenberg is confident: “We aim to exceed the 2 billion euro mark in 2016.” The company is set to invest around 150 million euros in national and international development. A 22 million euro investment will extend production capacity at the company's Nowy Tomysl site in Poland. In Russia, a new 3300 m² factory building will be built by the end of 2016. The distribution company in Israel, formerly a joint venture, will become a wholly owned subsidiary in order to further develop market and customer proximity. Other investments include shares in companies. For example, Phoenix Contact has purchased shares in Leadsoft, a Chinese software company which develops cloud solutions for engineering tools. Through Phoenix Contact Innovation Ventures GmbH, at the end of March the company invested in Eologix Sensor Technology GmbH, an Austrian tech startup for sensor systems for detecting ice on surfaces, especially for wind turbine generators.

The Hannover Messe starts on April 25 and is regarded as a barometer for trends in the economy. This year's partner country is the USA. “With 300 million USD sales to Germany, the USA is our strongest sales market,” Stührenberg explains the significance. “Our US subsidiary is also a competence center within the Phoenix Contact Group and has its own development center.”

In Hannover, the electrical engineering, electronics, and automation solution provider will present its innovations and future-oriented technologies in an exhibition space covering around 2300 m². The company will introduce a new connector for super fast charging of electric cars. A technology that Phoenix Contact developed together with the automotive industry in Europe and the USA and which is now going to be the international standard. Another highlight is the patented SOLARCHECK panel shutdown solution for safer photovoltaic rooftop systems. The device monitors the voltage conditions in the system and in the event of an error, such as fire, it automatically shuts down the photovoltaic panels. This technology developed by Phoenix Contact is more reliable and faster than any human assessment or manual intervention. “Traditionally, the Hannover Messe has been the most important international trade fair for us,” states Stührenberg. “This year we will be presenting over 100 new innovations and are expecting visitor delegations from 50 countries with over 1200 guests.”
