Roland Bent

Roland Bent, born in 1958, studied electrical engineering with main focus on telecommunications engineering at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Science in Lemgo.  He has been working with Blomberg-based Phoenix Contact GmbH & Co KG since 1984. The company is one of the international market leaders in the electrical connection, electronic interface and automation technology with a turnover of approximately 1.91 billion euros in 2014 and currently around 14.500 employees worldwide.

Roland Bent started his career as a development engineer for industrial fieldbus systems. Since 2001, he is member of the Executive Board for Marketing and Product Development as well as Innovation and Technology Management.  His area of responsibility also includes the management of international research and development centers of the company.

Besides his work at Phoenix Contact, Roland Bent has further responsibilities in various industrial and scientific organizations. He is involved in the ‘National Platform for Electric Mobility’ as Vice Chairman of the working group 4 (standardization). He is member of the Board of Directors of the Trade Association Automation of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (ZVEI e.V.) and Chairman of the department of switch gear, switch plants and industrial controls. As a member of the Board Working Group of the Platform “Industry 4.0”, Roland Bent is involved in the strategic direction of cross-industry activities related to the “Digitization of the Industry”. At the beginning of 2015 Roland Bent took over the Presidency of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE).

He is a member of the Exhibitors’ Advisory Board of the Hanover Fair and the SPS/IPC/Drives Trade Fair.

Roland Bent works in the scientific advisory board of the “Institute Industrial IT” (InIT) of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Science as well as in the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer Institute (IOSB), Karlsruhe. Since 2010, he has been a visiting professor at Tongji University in Shanghai.
