Hans-Jürgen Koch, born in 1966, studied telecommunications at Paderborn University. He began working at Phoenix Contact in 1991, in Blomberg, developing electronic devices for serial fieldbus networking in the automation industry. The company is among the worldwide market leaders in the fields of electrical connection technology, electronic interface technology, and automation. It reported a turnover of around 1.91 billion euros and had a workforce of approx. 14,500 employees in 2015.
Koch has held management roles in Phoenix Contact's internal automation technology development department since 2003. In 2012, he became Vice President - Head of Business Unit Control Systems for Control Technology, Human Machine Interfaces, and Industrial PCs. He has also been Head of the Business Area Industry Management & Automation as of mid-2016.
Hans-Jürgen Koch is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the FDT Group, a voluntary role. In the German government's Industrie 4.0 platform, he represents the member companies ZVEI, VDMA, and BITKOM, within the steering group.
