Hans-Jürgen Koch, born in 1966, studied Communications Engineering at Paderborn University. He began his professional career at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg in 1991, developing electronic devices for the automation industry. Phoenix Contact is a global market leader for components, systems, and solutions in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and automation and currently employs more than 16,500 people worldwide. In 2017, Phoenix Contact generated a turnover of € 2.2 billion.

At the start of his career, Mr. Koch devoted his time to developing electronic devices for the automation industry. He has held management roles in the development of automation technology since 2003. In 2012 he took over management of the Business Unit Control Systems for Control Technology, Human Machine Interfaces, and Industrial PCs. Today, he is Executive Vice President and Member of the Board in the Business Area Industry Management and Automation (IMA).

Hans-Jürgen Koch is a Member of the Board of Directors of the FDT Group. As a part of the German Federal Government's "Industrie 4.0" platform, he is a member of the steering committee as a representative of the ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association), VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Federation), and BITKOM (German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media) associations.
