Narrow and powerful – type 2 surge protection

Type 2 surge protection should be present in every sub-distribution. It is the only way to achieve effective protection.

Limit voltage peaks

With an overall width of just 12 mm per channel, VALVETRAB SEC is the narrowest type 2 surge arrester in the world. With an overall width of just 48 mm, you are able to implement excellent protection against surge voltages in a 5-conductor system.

The protective device provides a voltage protection level of 1.5 kV and therefore fulfills the requirements of type 3 device protection. VALVETRAB SEC limits voltage peaks to such an extent that machines, systems, and household appliances are not damaged.

For industry and building installations with an external lightning protection system, surge protection type 2 is the second level of protection after the type 1 lightning arresters. The surge protective device handles short-circuit currents up to 50 kA and can be used without backup fuse up to a main fuse nominal current of 315 A.

High rated voltage enables worldwide use

Usage range of VALVETRAB SEC

Due to the high rated voltage of 350 V AC, VALVETRAB SEC arresters can be used worldwide, even with an unstable power supply with high mains voltage fluctuations.
The voltage protection level of the arrester combination is always below 1.5 kV.

Key:

UC = rated surge arrester voltage
UTOV = TOV requirement according to IEC 61643-1
UN = nominal voltage

Wiring and marking

Rotatable base elements and plugs with VALVETRAB SEC from Phoenix Contact

The base elements and plugs can be rotated.

VALVETRAB SEC has a symmetrical design. The base elements and plugs can be rotated 180°.

What this means for you:

  • Installation is extremely easy.
  • The connections are always on the correct side, regardless of whether the supply lines are led from above or below.
  • Cable lengths are kept to a minimum.
  • The large marking area is always legible.

The two terminal points per channel enable V-shaped through wiring.

Plug-in and removal

VALVETRAB SEC is consistently pluggable

VALVETRAB SEC is consistently pluggable

A major advantage of VALVETRAB SEC: all arresters are consistently pluggable, including the N-PE spark gap.

  • To perform insulation measurements, simply remove the plugs. There is no need for complicated disconnection and connection.
  • In the event of the unexpected overload of individual protective plugs, e.g., due to extremely high surge voltages, you can replace the affected plugs quickly and inexpensively.
  • Recurring tests for surge protective devices can be performed quickly and easily using the CHECKMASTER 2 test device.

Convenient monitoring

The operating state of all modes of protection of VALVETRAB SEC is monitored.

In the event of an error, the L-N plugs are thermally disconnected. Clear signaling takes place directly on the module, without using any power.

A floating PDT contact is also monitored at the same time. Easy-maintenance remote signaling can therefore be implemented.

What this means for you is that the arresters indicate their state at the location that suits you best.
