Reliable relays especially for railway applications

The DIN EN 50155 standard applies for use in railway applications. In accordance with this standard, special requirements are in place for relays, particularly for:

  • Operating voltage
    The operating voltage must be between 70% and 125% of the nominal voltage in order to be deemed suitable for railway applications. As standard, the range is 80% to 110% of the nominal voltage.
  • Ambient temperature
    Relays in railway environments are often subjected to extreme temperatures from -40°C to +70°C. The reason is that some control cabinets are mounted in non-thermally-insulated steel housings beneath the passenger car.
