Siauliai State College students created Terminal for Warehouse Automation process, which helps companies to increase the efficiency of warehouse process management

The project objective was to make robotic accounting processes for spare parts warehouses, which help companies to increase order planning efficiency, accounting simplicity and decrease human resources in warehouses management. The terminal is versatile and can be easily adapted to various mechatronic systems and managed via mobile devices.

Siauliai State College students created universal IoT (Internet of things) principle working terminal, which has HMI connection for spare part warehouses orders management and creates intermediate program modules, which allows to integrate the terminal into any business management systems, for example, NAV, SAP, ORACLE and others.

Phoenix Contact was the main sponsor of the project. The main elements of the terminal management system are the HMI panel, PLCs and software. The project participated in Phoenix Contact's international technology and training competition - xplore New Automation Award 2018.  

The implementation of the project also involved the company EIC automation, which supported by providing premises, advising on engineering issues, and made it possible for the project to put into circulation and commercialize the repair warehouses operating in Lithuanian enterprises.

Terminal working principle is simple and convenient:

  • personal login into private account and barcodes scan with wireless barcode scanner;
  • information about scanned parts are automatically send into business management system and corresponding document about goods is created;
  • the terminal can be also used for new goods income and goods stock-taking;
  • the device can be integrated into mechatronics storage systems;
  • terminal can connect to business management systems through 3G/4G connection.

Phoenix Contact participation in the project has strengthen scientific and business relations - a commercialized universal IoT-based terminal allowing robotic accounting of warehouses was developed and launched to increase the efficiency of process management. Students have improved PLC and HMI programming knowledge and acquired the practical skills needed to integrate automation systems with cloud-based business management systems, also, improved skills using 3D engineering design programs. Companies by integrating this solution will save resources and increase processes efficiency.
