Process technology and process engineering

Safety in process technology

We support you with individual services for safe operation in process engineering systems.

Whatever the product, our industry experts help you plan and implement the safety lifecycle in accordance with EN 61511 as well as process control safety equipment. Furthermore, the integration of machines in process systems may require the Machinery Directive to be applied. With our services in accordance with EN ISO 13849, we are on hand to assist you with this.

Consultation at the customer's site

We can consult with you on site regarding all aspects of the safety lifecycle

We provide advice regarding the planning and implementation of your system:

  • Design of the safety lifecycle
  • Design of process control safety equipment
  • Interfaces: pressure equipment, machinery
  • ATEX, EMC, Low Voltage Directive
  • Design of proof tests

Safety engineering at the customer's site

We implement the requirements of the Machinery Directive for you

In order to demonstrate the safety integrity, we determine the SIL of the safety functions based on your technical documentation.

These must be sufficiently robust to withstand random errors. In the case of requirements according to the Machinery Directive, we implement the entire safety lifecycle process.

We answer any questions you have regarding safety

Basic principles of functional safety in process technology
You will gain an overview of the requirements for safety equipment used in process control applications and learn about the methods used to identify and analyze risks. You will also acquire a basic knowledge of the Safety Integrity Level, or SIL for short.

Application of EN 61511

This seminar will teach you the basic principles for achieving functional safety based on IEC 61511-1:2016 and other relevant standards. This will be clearly illustrated by using the safety lifecycle – from risk analysis and designing process control safety equipment to validation, operation, and modification – as a continuous example. Typical questions about the selection of field devices, the aspect of “proven in use”, and the design of safe software will be answered.

Integration of machines in process engineering systems

There are often interfaces between the requirements for the process industry and for the safety of machinery: for example, packing machines or machines for transporting containers are also used in process engineering systems.

Scope of the Machinery Directive
Interlinking these machines can create an assembly of machinery. Changes to machines and systems are subject to the definition of a significant change. In such cases, an operator becomes the manufacturer and is responsible for the conformity assessment. We support you in complying with the specific requirements regarding the safety of machinery and safeguarding interfaces to the safety areas on the basis of criteria applicable in Germany and Austria.
