Tailored signal marshalling saves space in the switch room

Tailored signal marshalling saves space in the switch room

Space saving

Save space in the switch room with compact marshalling concepts for process engineering.

Your advantages

  • Reduce marshalling costs by reducing the control cabinets by up to 20%
  • Project-specific planning and positioning support
  • Entire signal marshalling concept from a single source
  • Only one contact person for all components

Application

Conventional analog and binary signals continue to be the most frequently used signal types in process engineering systems. This type of signal transmission is the easiest to handle and diagnose, however its classic parallel wiring requires the most space in the switch room.

Depending on the system, a few hundred to several thousand signals in the field need to be connected with individual wire pairs to the IO cards of the central control technology. The individual sensor or actuator cables are gathered in field connection boxes (junction boxes) and routed to the central switch room via high-pos. master cables. Here there are marshalling cabinets or routing frames, in which these master cables with various signals are consistently connected. From here, the signals are cross-marshaled to the various IO cards of the DCS via signal type-dependent interface modules. The interface modules and the IO cards of the control technology are predominantly housed on separate cabinets or frames.

It soon becomes clear that a large number of points must be considered in depth for efficient signal marshalling. Compact marshalling concepts are of interest to system operators, planning offices, and control technology suppliers alike. What's more, operators want to minimize the number of control cabinets required in order to reduce the size and costs of the entire switch room. Another point to bear in mind is the freedom to migrate.

Whether or not a marshalling concept is the right choice for you greatly depends on the local conditions and the control technology. Over the decades, a great deal has been done to develop the potential of signal marshalling, particularly in relation to signal density.

As a provider of all components between the control system and the field, we have international experience with numerous end customers and DCS providers. We are therefore able to offer you a wide, extensive range of marshalling components, with which the signal density can be freely selected.

Space savings of up to 20% through tailored signal marshalling

For many decades now, we have also been developing special interface modules and cabling solutions which are tailored to various IO components from major control system manufacturers as well as local operator-specific requirements.

In addition to modular terminal blocks and marshalling terminals, passive interface modules and relay modules, we also produce all active interface components, such as SIL-certified repeater power supplies, IS signal duplicators, solenoid drivers, surge protection, and safety relays.

Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, all these devices are temperature-optimized and feature a rather narrow design. For example, up to 1024 analog inputs can be intrinsically safely isolated and marshaled in a 80 x 80 cm cabinet. This results in space savings of 20%. These devices are mounted in the cabinet in a space-saving manner using a robust carrier system, the Termination Carrier, and connected with a twist of the wrist via a system plug.
