PROFINET switches

The FL SWITCH IRT range uses the ERTEC controller and is therefore ideally suited for PROFINET applications. The switch fulfills all requirements for optimum forwarding of PROFINET IO packets. Thanks to the integrated PROFINET IO device, FL SWITCH IRT switches can be fully configured and monitored from the controller.

Prioritized PROFINET data transmission

PROFINET prioritizing

PROFINET prioritizing

Irrespective of the data packet priority, PROFINET packets are processed preferentially by checking the header-file the incoming packets for a PROFINET ID.

If a PROFINET ID is detected in the header, the data packet is processed with the highest priority. This provides the option of increasing the priority for certain applications such as video streams without impairing PROFINET communication.

This means that the system operator does not to deal with prioritizing of PROFINET packets. Network planning is simplified and detailed distinction of the priorities for all non-PROFINET telegrams is possible.

The shortest latency time for forwarding of packets is achieved in the case of in 100 Mbps transmission – thanks to cut-through switching technology. This enables PROFINET packets to quickly reach their destination even via several switches.

Integration into the engineering

Konfiguration IRT-switches

Konfiguration IRT-switches

You can fully configure the FL SWITCH IRT at the PROFINET controller – from initial startup including IP address assignment via DCP up to the port configuration.

During operation, the entire diagnostics for the IRT switches can be read out and monitored via the PROFINET IO device.

Fast device replacement and monitoring of the network topology is realized via the LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) implemented in the PROFINET standard. Furthermore, the network topology is monitored via LLDP with the help of a network management tool.

Diagnostics for fiber optics paths

Diagnostics for fiber optics paths

FL SWITCH IRT can be diagnosed via PROFINET-fiber optic paths and the diagnostic data made available to the controller.

This makes it possible to continually monitor the quality of the fiber optics path. For improved assessment of the fiber optics path, FL IRT switches also make the distances between two devices in the PROFINET I/O device available to the maintenance engineer.

MRP - fast and guaranteed switch-over time

MRP controls switching over in a ring topology

Switch-over in the event of an error

Ensure uninterrupted data traffic: MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) is a redundancy protocol and part of the IEC 62439 standard. It guarantees maximum switch-over times of 200 ms in a ring structure in the event of an interruption.

Integrate the MRP management function into your switch with the FL MEM PLUG/MRM replaceable configuration memory.

You can also store your settings on this external memory. This means that devices can be swapped in a matter of seconds.
