Push-in connection

Push-in connection technology was developed for direct conductor connection. This means that rigid conductors or conductors with ferrules can be directly contacted in the conductor connection point without using any tools. The special spring profile of the Push-in connection allows the easy insertion of conductors with ferrules of 0.34 mm² and higher.

Low insertion force makes wiring significantly easier. The spring is opened by a push button either to release conductors or connect flexible conductors without ferrules of 0.14 mm² and higher – easily and without direct contact with live parts.

The special contact spring of Push-in connections is made of high-quality spring steel. It opens automatically when the conductor is pushed in and thus provides the required pressure force against the current bar. This ensures maximum contact and conductor pull-out forces with a vibration-resistant and gas-tight connection. Rigid conductors of 0.25 mm² and higher can be directly inserted into the Push-in connection without using tools.

Vertical Push-in connection

The lateral Push-in connection which can be found in PTV terminals, for example, combines the advantages of Push-in connections without tools with the lateral conductor insertion of screw connections.

The tool-free Push-in direct connection technology thus ensures time-saving conductor connection with low conductor insertion forces and high vibration resistance. The lateral conductor routing of Push-in connections also facilitates clearly arranged wiring without bending radii. The resulting straight conductor routing from the terminal block to the cable duct makes it much easier to attach and read wire markings.

General information about screw connections and their advantages

The screw connection is an international standard. Screw connection technology from Phoenix Contact stands out with maintenance-free conductor connection and offers maximum versatility via multi-conductor connection.

The screw connection does not need to be retightened because the patented Reakdyn principle or spring-loaded elements prevent it from loosening itself. The Reakdyn principle is an integrated screw-locking system developed by Phoenix Contact.

Screw connections are suitable for safe wiring of all types of conductors from 0.14 to 240 mm² in a compact design. Long-term stable connections can be achieved using high-grade copper alloys, even under difficult conditions (e.g., in aggressive atmospheres). Screw connection technology also ensures a gas-tight contact point and permanently low contact resistance.

Screw connection with tension sleeve

When tightening the screw connection, the screwdriver remains at a constant height and the terminal sleeve moves upward in accordance with the elevator principle. This means that the screwdriver does not have to simulate the axial movement. The screw is supported by the current bar and the conductor is securely routed through the terminal sleeve underneath the current bar and is therefore protected from exposure to radial forces from the screw.

The integrated screw-locking system of the screw connection (Reakdyn principle) eliminates the need for re-tightening connection screws and prevents the connection from being inadvertently disengaged. The force applied, in conjunction with the Reakdyn groove, deforms the tension sleeve in the elastic area. The result is a screw-locking system which protects the thread.

In some areas, we have made the particularly compact screw connection significantly more simple and adapted it to user requirements. However, this range still meets the same quality criteria as our connection technology range for industrial applications.

The wire guard ensures that conductors without ferrules are also wired safely and it protects stranded conductors from the radial forces of the screw.

The reliable clamping of screw connections is based on the force-increasing swiveling movement of the angled pressure plate, which is supported in the robust clamping pocket such that it can swing freely and presses the conductor against the busbar.

Push-lock

Push-Lock spring connection enables easy and tool-free conductor connection with or without ferrules by means of a one-hand tilting lever. Simply insert the conductor into the open terminal point and securely connect it by actuating the tilting lever via the push-lock spring.

Alternatively, rigid or flexible conductors with ferrules can be inserted directly when lever is closed. The color-coded tilting lever with the push-lock principle allows fast and secure conductor connection.

Patented Power-Turn spring connection technology allows large conductors from 2.5 to 185 mm² to be connected quickly and easily using a standard screwdriver and a single lever movement.

Up to three high-quality spring-steel pressure springs work in conjunction with the prismatic terminal body base and the application of high-grade copper alloys to create a vibration-resistant conductor connection in the spring terminal block that is stable in the long term. Alternatively, conductors can also be inserted directly without using tools when the actuation lever is closed.

Power-Turn connections offer you the following advantages:

Spring-cage connection

Spring-cage connection allows the easy connection of all conductor types. The spring is opened using a screwdriver via the actuation shaft. In the process, the screwdriver is fixed in place in the open spring connection. This ensures that users have both hands free and can also wire flexible conductors without ferrules.

The positioned screwdriver keeps the spring connection open and also provides visual orientation. When the tool is removed, the spring then pulls the conductor against the busbar. This connection can be released in the same way.

T-LOX

The T-LOX knee-lever connection allows you to connect large conductor cross-sections with ease. Their operating principle is based on a spring that generates a programmed contact force. The conductors can be swiveled conveniently into the terminal point.

Owing to its design, the T-LOX knee-lever connection is particularly suitable for conductor cross-sections larger than 35 mm². The conductors can be inserted easily into the open terminal point, and the color-coded lever can be thrown with ease using a screwdriver.

Insulation displacement connection system

QUICKON insulation displacement connection technology from Phoenix Contact features a space-saving twist connection with patented insulation displacement contact. By eliminating cable preparation such as stripping and the fitting of splicing protection, significant time savings are achieved with insulation displacement technology compared to conventional connection technologies. After all, it only takes a few seconds to connect the conductors.

Insert an unstripped conductor into the rotary connection. Use a screwdriver to turn the swiveling lever. The result is that the wire insulation is cut through and a gas-tight contact with a large area is made. It is used to connect conductors quickly and without any pretreatment. The insulation displacement technology is suitable for cables with PVC and PE insulation. Other types of insulation are available on request.

Reliable contacting using IDC (insulation displacement connection) technology is achieved by inserting the conductor into the specially designed cutting metal. Rigid and flexible conductors can be rewired up to 100 times. The wire end must be cut off before connecting again.

Crimp connection

Crimp connection allows fast, automated connection. Crimp connection is particularly efficient whenever a large volume of conductors must be assembled.

The connection between the wire and the crimp contact is made using a crimping pliers or a crimping device. Taped crimp contacts are available for fully automated processing. If you would like to manually crimp your wires, you only need crimp sleeves, stripped conductors, and a suitable crimping tool. As soon as you have connected a suitable sleeve to the conductor, you only have to insert the crimped conductor into the proper crimp connection.

Crimp connections are used in connectors, PCB connectors, and the COMBI connectors in the CLIPLINE complete system for connecting pluggable terminal blocks.

The pierce connection from Phoenix Contact is a reliable connection technology that does not require conductor pretreatment.

Contact is made by inserting the conductors into the corresponding guide in the transparent cover of the connector. When the cover is closed, the pierce contacts pierce through the conductor insulation and thus ensure a permanently secure conductor connection.

Pierce connections are reliable and save time. The connection type is ideal for simple field installation.

Bolt connection

Bolt connection technology was specifically developed to allow convenient wiring of ring and fork-type cable lugs. Thanks to the swiveling hinged cover of bolt terminals with a captive cap nut, ring cable lugs can be connected quickly and easily.

To do so, simply swivel open the hinged cover of the bolt terminal and attach the cable lug at the exposed threaded bolt. As soon as you have attached all the cable lugs, you can swivel the hinged cover back with ease. Now you can use the screwdriver to tighten the cap nut and the cable lugs are clamped.

If you would like a multi-conductor connection, remember that with most bolt terminals, up to four cable lugs can be connected per bolt connection.
