Configuration of measurement system
The measurement system can be completely configured via BACnet interface. These objects are used for this purpose:
| Setting | BACnet Object |
| Selection of grid type (1-, 2- or 3-phase measurement in 2-, 3- or 4-wire TN, TT or IT system) | Grid type (MV1) |
| Current range of the primary side of the transformer at the current input | Primary side current input (PIV5) |
| Current range of the secondary side of the transformer at the current input | Secondary side current input (MV2) |
| Polarity of the current measurement input can be changed | Inversion I1/ I2/ I3 (BV3-5) |
| States if a voltage transducer is connected | Voltage transducer available (BV2) |
| Voltage on the primary side of a connected voltage transducer | Primary side voltage transducer (PIV3) |
| Nominal voltage (phase to neutral) of measured grid | Secondary side voltage transducer / Rated voltage (PIV4) |
Network settings
The BACnet communication can be configured via the BACnet interface using the Network Port Objects:
IP-Datalink (NP1)
- If 'IP DHCP Enable' is set to ‘True', only the BACnet IP Udp port can be changed. A change of other properties will result in an access denied error.
- To act as foreign device, the BBMD must be configured via the properties 'BBMD Address’ and 'FD Subscription Lifetime’. The FD Subscription Lifetime is a timer specifying how long the foreign device remains registered on the BBMD. The foreign device must periodically re-register before the timer expires to maintain communication.
MS/TP-Datalink (NP2)
- If the Link Speed (Baudrate) is set to ‘0', auto bauding is active.
If a property of a Network Port Object is changed by the user, the 'Changes Pending' property will turn to ‘True’.
- A 'Reinitialize Device' request with state “activate changes” has to be sent afterwards for the settings to take effect.
- To discard the Network Port object changes the command property of the Network Port object has to be set to ‘Discard Changes’.
Attention exceptions (No Reinitialize Device request for change):
- Setting the property 'Out Of Service‘ of a Network Port object to ‘True’ will immediately interrupt the selected connection.
- Setting the property 'Out Of Service‘ of the Network Port 1 (IP) to ‘False‘ will immediately interrupt the connection of Network Port 2 (MS/TP) as only one Datalink can be active.
- Setting the property 'Out Of Service‘ of the Network Port 2 (MS/TP) to ‘False‘ will immediately interrupt the connection of Network Port 2 (IP) as only one Datalink can be active.
The interrupted connection can now only be reactivated via the web server, the display or an not deactivated interface.
Time Settings
The date and time of the device are displayed in the device object. There are two ways to synchronize the time of the device:
- via BACnet interface
- via SNTP server:
- Enable SNTP (BV13)
- SNTP server URL / IP (CSV1)
- SNTP update rate (PIV18)
Time synchronization via BACnet will only be done if time synchronization via SNTP is not activated. By default time synchronization via SNTP
is deactivated for all devices with BACnet communication interface. The time of the device can also be further specified by setting a time zone
(‘UTC offset‘ property of the Device object (DEV)) and a summer time changeover rule (Daylight saving time control (MV13)).
Attention: No time synchronization via BACnet interface can be carried out in "Read only" mode of the BACnet interface.
Provision of measurment data
The device provides
- 50 instantaneous measured values including voltages, currents, frequency, active powers, reactive powers, apparent powers, relevant phase angles, power factors, THD values on the BACnet interface (AI1-50). These values are recorded via seamless true RMS measurement.
- 10 Average, Maximum and prediction values (AI51-AI60) - see chapter ‘Average values and demand prediction’
- 50 meter readings (AI61-AI110) including active energy, reactive energy, apparent energy phase specific or total across all 4 quadrants and with consideration of tariffs – see chapter Tariff counter
- 3 positive integer value counter (PIV2, PIV8, PIV9) reflecting counted impulses or operating hours total or during load operation
Note: In contrast to the other Positive Integer Values (PIV), Impulse counter (PIV2) and Operating hours counters (PIV8-9) are readable only.
The values are updated on the BACnet interface every ~200 ms. In addition, change of value (COV) reporting is supported for all measured values and a ‘Cov increment’ suitable for the individual application should be configured for this in the respective AI objects. A maximum of 4 COV subscriptions can be set up per AI object. The "Resolution" property in the AI objects is used to output the minimum change value of a measured value that the ‘Present Value’ can experience.
The PICS document or the register table of the device can be consulted for further details.
Average values and demand prediction
The device provides selected mean values via the BACnet interface. These include for active power, reactive power and apparent power:
- The maximum consumption value recorded in the past ‘Maximum value’ (AI51 / AI54 / AI57)
- The last consumption value recorded ‘AVG value’ (AI52 / AI55 / AI58)
- The consumption value forecast for the current averaging interval ‘Trend value’ (AI53 / AI56 / AI59)
These values can be used for the early detection of peak load values. Additionally the Maximum value active power delivery (AI60) is provided.
The type and interval of the average value generation can be configured via:
- Averaging powers (filter type) (MV5)
- Averaging powers (filter interval) (PIV7)
- Prediction powers (filter type) (MV4)
- Prediction powers (filter interval) (PIV6)
The Average generation and prediction functions are described in full in the chapter ‘Functional settings → Average values‘.
Tariff counter
If not controlled via digital input the tariff can be set via:
- Tariff Number (MV7)
The values for total active energy consumption or delivery (all phases) are accessible via BACnet interface (AI103-110). Tariff related reactive or apparent energy values are only available via web server or Modbus interface.
Reset of counters and average & maximum values
Tariff counters 1-4 (AI103-110), Impulse counter (PIV2), Operating hours counter (PIV8-9) and all AVG-/Max- values (AI51-60) can be reset via the BACnet interface.
This can be done via the CharacterString Value objects (CSV4-7) by entering the password (default: ‘adm1n’) here in the ‘Present Value’ property of the respective object.
Note: Not only the present values of the mentioned BACnet Objects are reset, but also values associated with the category that may only be visible on other interfaces.
Logging
The 8 logs of the EMpro can be configured and read out directly via BACnet using trend log (TL) objects:
- Data log 1-8 (TL1-8)
Data source (Log Device Object Property), Log interval (in 100 ms), Circular Buffer (Stop when full) as well as Start time and Stop time can be configured individually per trend log object. All settings can only be changed when no logging is active / logging is stopped (Enable = False). To change the 'stop when full' property additionally the log must be empty (A log is deleted by setting ‘Record Count’ to 0). If this is not the case this setting will be reverted when the log is restarted (Enable = true) because this property cannot be changed for an ongoing log file.
For instantaneous values (range: AI1 – AI50) mean values over the log intervals are recorded. For the meter readings (AI61 – AI110) the values currently present are recorded. Only analog inputs are permitted as reference objects, but not all of them.
The Logging function is described in full in the chapter ‘Functional settings → Data Logging‘.
Monitoring limit values
Monitoring of 4 freely configurable measured variables and alarming in the event of a violation of an upper or lower limit is possible via BACnet interface.
By default, alarming is deactivated. When setting the alarms via the BACnet interface, the following procedure should be followed:
| No. | Setting | BACnet Object |
| 1. | Selection of monitoring value | Monitored measured value for alarm 1-4 (MV9-12) |
| 2. |
Adapt detailed settings for the alarm (optional)
|
|
| 3. | Activate the limit values |
Upper and Lower limit for Alarm 1-4 (AV 1-8) → Set property ‘out of service’ to “false” |
| 4. | Set the limit values |
Upper and Lower limit for Alarm 1-4 (AV 1-8) → Set property ‘present value’ |
In the event of a limit value violation, alerting takes place via:
- Limit value alarm 1-4 (BI2-5)
- Digital output (BO1), if Function of digital output (MV8) is set accordingly (‘Present Value’ = 5)
Note: The logical linking of alarms for the Digital output can only be configured via the web server or Modbus interface. By default - if function of digital output (MV8) is set to ‘Present Value’ = 5 - all alarms are selected and linked via the logic gate "OR“. Accordingly, thedigital output is set when only one alarm is active.
Confirmation Objects:
- Acknowledgment of alarms (BV8)
- Activate acknowledgement of limit value alarms via DI (BV7)
Note: Object BV8 is used to acknowledge the limit value alarms (by writing present value = 1). Reading present value is always 0 as output.
The Alarming function is described in full in the chapter ‘Functional settings → Alarming‘.
Digital input and digital output
The status of the digital input can be queried via Digital input (BI1). The status of the digital output can be queried and set (if Function of digital output (MV8) is set to ‘BACnet’ (Present Value = 7)) via Digital output (BO1).
The digital input can be used for several functions. The function can be configured via the mentioned objects:
| Function | BACnet Object |
| Impulse counter | Activation of the pulse counter (BV1) and Valency (pulse weight) of digital input (PIV1) |
| Tariff switching | Mode for tariff switching (MV6) → set property 'present value' = 2 |
| Synchronize the average value calculation | Synchronization averaging powers with digital input (BV6) |
| Acknowledge alarms | Activate acknowledgement of limit value alarms via DI (BV7) |
The digital output can be used for several functions. The function can be selected via the BACnet interface using:
- Function of digital output (MV8)
Note: Advanced settings (if required) for the functions are only possible via web server or Modbus interface.
The different functionalities of digital input and output are described in full in the chapters ‘Functional settings → Digital input‘ and ‘Functional settings → Digital output‘.
Read Only mode
The activated ‘Read Only’ mode prevents device settings from being changed via the BACnet interface. It is configurable via
Disable write over BACnet (CSV3). Here the passwort (default: ‘adm1n’) needs to be written to the ‘Present Value’ property.
Attention: Writing the password into the property ‘Present Value’ of the ‘Disable write over BACnet‘ object will immediately deactivate all configuration possibilities via BACnet interface. No settings are possible anymore until this setting is changed via the web server, the display or Modbus interface.
If the device is in read-only mode, this is displayed accordingly ‘Operational Read only’ in the 'System Status' property of the Device object (DEV).
Device communication control
The device supports 3 different states of the Reinitialize Device service.
- Coldstart: Triggers a hard reset of the device and the device reboots.
- Warmstart: All processes (Measuring system, Modbus, BACnet, Web server, …) on the device are reinitialized.
- Activate changes: Triggers a transfer of setting for the network port object. Before this command is executed, changes made for the network port objects are only stored in a volatile memory (with the exceptions stated), but are not accepted by the device.
To execute the service the device password (default: ‘adm1n’) must be entered.
For all excecutions, settings in the devices are retained. In case of a Coldstart the statistics (Min-/Max-/Average-values) are reset.
Reset to deafult settings
The Firmware Default Reset is configurable via Reset to factory settings (CSV2). Here the passwort (default: ‘adm1n’) needs to be written to the ‘Present Value’ property.
Attention: Writing the password into the property ‘Present Value’ of the ‘Reset to factory settings‘ object will immediately reset the device settings, restart the device and then start the installation wizard.
The Firmware Default Reset is described in the chapter ‘Resetting the Device to Default Settings‘.
