Roland Bent | Executive Vice President, Phoenix Contact Vorwort zum 6. xplore New Automation Award 2015 Wo sind die Grenzen der Entwicklung? Diese Frage darf man Ingenieuren nicht stellen. Wir wol- len technische Grenzen überwinden und akzeptieren sie nicht. Und wenn man sich bewusst macht, welche Hürden die Menschheit schon überwunden hat, dann scheint es so, als gäbe es keine Grenzen. Genau solch eine spannende Zeit voller Eifer und Ideen, Grenzen zu überwinden und die Welt ein Stück mitzuge- stalten wünschen wir auch jungen Menschen und wollen sie als Unternehmen dabei unterstützen. Ich habe bei Phoenix Contact von Anfang an die Auto- matisierungstechnik begleiten und mitgestalten dürfen. Das war und ist immer noch eine spannende Zeit – Din- ge selbst in die Hand nehmen und die Chance haben, an etwas Großem zu arbeiten und die Zukunft zu gestalten. Sie sollen die Möglichkeiten dazu bekommen und erste Erfahrungen sammeln. Deshalb gibt es den xplore New Automation Award – um die Ideen und Erfindungen von jungen, kreativen Menschen Realität werden zu lassen.

xplore New Automation Award 2015 Zum sechsten Mal | For the sixth time Der internationale Technologie- und Bildungs- wettbewerb von Phoenix Contact wendet sich alle drei Jahre an Lernende verschiede- ner Altersklassen und Bildungsebenen. Die Projekt-Teams setzen sich kreativ mit Automa- tisierungstechnik auseinander und entwickeln innovative Lösungen zu verschiedenen Themen- gebieten. Insgesamt wurden bei dieser sechsten Ausgabe 136 Bewerbungen aus 23 Ländern eingereicht. Aus den Bewerbungen wurden von der Jury 96 Projekte zur Förderung mit Komponenten, Sys- temen und Know-how von Phoenix Contact im Wert von je bis zu 4.000 Euro ausgewählt. Sieben Monate wurden die Teams in der Umsetzung ihrer Projektideen begleitet. 33 Projekte wurden anschließend ausgewählt. Die Teams wurden nach Deutschland einge- laden, um der Jury ihre Projekte persönlich vorzustellen. Diese Projekte und natürlich die Gewinner, möchten wir Ihnen hier vorstellen. 8 | Buildings Category 8 | xplore New Automation Award Every three years, Phoenix Contact‘s international technology and training competition turns to learners of different age groups and educational levels. The project teams become creatively engaged in automation technology and develop innovative solutions for various subject areas. Overall, 136 applications from 23 countries were submitted for this com- petition, which was held for the sixth time. Out of the submitted appli- cations, 96 projects were selected to be promoted by the jury using the components, systems and expertise from Phoenix Contact, each worth up to 4,000 euros. Phoenix Contact supported the implemen- tation of their project ideas over a period of seven months. 33 projects were subsequent ly selected. The teams were invited to Germa- ny to present their projects to the jury in person. We would like to present these projects and, of course, the winners here.

Siegerehrung auf der Hannover Messe Awards ceremony at the Hannover Messe Ein Höhepunkt jedes xplore New Automation Award ist die Siegerehrung auf der Hannover Messe, bei der die Gewinner der einzelnen Kategorien für ihre herausragenden Leistungen vom Schirmherrn beglückwünscht werden. Dieses Mal war das Bundesminister Sigmar Gabriel, der in seiner Ansprache nicht nur die großartigen Leistungen der xplore- Teams lobte, sondern auch betonte, wie wichtig es ist, dass jungen Menschen die Möglichkeit gegeben wird, ihre Ideen umzusetzen, denn Innovationen und neue Technologien benötigen Fachkräfte, die sie anwenden und weiterentwi- ckeln können. 10 | Buildings Category 10 | xplore New Automation Award A high point of each xplore New Automation Award is the awards cerem- ony at the Hannover Messe, where the winners of the individual catego- ries are congratulated for their excellent contributions by the patron. This time it was German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel, who not only praised the outstanding work of the xplore teams in his speech, but also emphasized how important it is for young people to have the opportunity to implement their ideas because innovations and new technologies need experts who can implement and develop these further.

Buildings So vielfältig die Einsatzmöglichkeiten von Au- tomatisierungstechnologie in Gebäuden sind, so groß war die Bandbreite der eingereichten Projektideen in der Kategorie Buildings. Ein großer Trend waren automatisierte und ener- gieeffiziente Gebäude, die mit dem Smart- phone oder Tablet per App gesteuert werden können. As varied as the applications of automa- tion technology in buildings are, so great was the range of project ideas submitted in the category Buildings. Automated, energy-efficient buildings that can be controlled with an app on smart- phones or tablets proved to be a major trend.

Titel Automatic Home Demonstrator Schule | Land Berufsbildende Schule 2 Wolfsburg | Germany 1 Das zwölfköpfige Team entwickelte ein vollau- tomatisch gesteuertes Hausmodell mit einem automatisierten Energiemanagement. Licht, Jalousien, Klimaanlage und vieles mehr können mit Hilfe einer App, direkt durch ein Touch- Panel oder durch die Sprachsteuerung kontrol- liert werden. Im Haus installierte Sensoren übermitteln aktu- elle Ereignisse im und um das Haus, beispiels- weise ob etwas in den Briefkasten geworfen wurde. Die Sensoren warnen auch vor Feuer oder Einbruch. Spezielle Audioausgaben unter- stützen ältere oder beeinträchtigte Menschen. Eine Windturbine versorgt nicht nur den Haushalt mit Strom, sondern ist auch an eine Ladestation für Elektroautos vor dem Haus angeschlossen. 16 | Buildings Category 16 | Buildings Category 16 | Buildings Category The twelve-man team developed a fully automated house model with an automated energy management. With the help of an app, the lights, blinds, air conditioning and much more can be directly controlled by a touch panel or by voice control. Sensors installed in the house transmit on- going events inside and outside the house, for example whether something was thrown into your mailbox. The sensors also alert you about a fi re or break-in. Special audio outputs support elderly or disabled people. A wind turbine not only provides po- wer to the house, but is also connected to a charging station for electric vehicles located in front of the house.

Titel EcHo - The Economic Home Schule | Land Berufsbildende Schule 1 Mainz | Germany 2 Im Rahmen ihrer Abschlussarbeit zum staat- lich geprüften Techniker haben Schüler der Berufsbildenden Schule 1 Mainz das Modell des Economic Home konstruiert. Es stellt dar, wie ein Haus intelligent und energieeffizient mit Photovoltaik-Panels auf dem Dach versorgt werden kann. Die Solarenergie beliefert alle Haushaltsgeräte mit Strom, der Überschuss wird in Akkumula- toren gespeichert oder in das Stromnetz einge- speist, sodass nur in langen Sonnenengpässen auf das städtische Stromnetz zurückgegriffen werden muss. Dies macht das Economic Home zu einem rundum nachhaltigen und ökonomisch lohnenden Projekt. 18 | Buildings Category 18 | Buildings Category 18 | Buildings Category As part of their thesis as state-approved technicians, students at the Berufsbildende Schule 1 Mainz, a vocational school in Mainz, construc- ted the Economic Home model. It shows how a house can be supplied intelligently and energy-effi ciently by photovoltaic panels on the roof. The solar energy supplies all the household devices with power. Any excess is stored in batteries or is fed back to the power grid so that the municipal power grid must only be accessed during prolonged periods without sunshine. This makes the Economic Home an all-round sustaina- ble and economically worthwhile project.

Intelligent Traffic Control System Zhejiang University | China 3 Das erhöhte Verkehrsaufkommen rund um die Welt führt zu immer mehr Staus, Verkehrscha- os und erhöhten Emissionen. Treffen besondere Ereignisse, wie zum Beispiel ein Fußballspiel auf die Rush Hour, kann es zum kompletten Still- stand führen. Das Team der Zhejiang University hat eine Lösung entwickelt, wie diese ungleichmäßigen Verkehrsflüsse besser verteilt und die Ampel- zeiten optimiert werden können. Die Fahrt- richtung auf einzelnen Spuren kann verändert werden, was nicht nur nützlich ist, um unregel- mäßige Ströme zu lenken, sondern auch Leben retten kann, wenn ein Krankenwagen auf der eigens geänderten Spur fährt und durch Ampel- kontrolle nicht im Rückstau gefangen ist. 20 | Buildings Category 20 | Buildings Category Increased traffi c around the world are leading to ever more congestion, traffi c chaos, and increased emissions. When special events happen, for example a football match at rush hour, then things can come to a comple- te standstill. The team of Zhejiang University has devel- oped a solution that better distributes these uneven traffi c fl ows and optimizes traffi c light signal timing. The travel direction on individual lanes can be altered, which is not only useful in redirecting uneven fl ows, but can also save lives when an ambulance drives on the specially altered lane and is not caught in traffi c light tailback.

A Smart Intercom Politecnico di Torino | Italy Der Postbote konnte das Paket nicht zustellen, weil niemand zu Hause war? Mit der Projektidee des Teams aus Italien gehö- ren diese Probleme bald der Vergangenheit an. Von der Gesichtserkennungs-Software identi- fizierte Personen werden automatisch in das Haus gelassen. Von unbekannten Personen wird ein Foto direkt an das Smartphone des Hausei- gentümers geschickt. Dieser kann dann von unterwegs entscheiden, ob er dem Besucher Zutritt zum Haus gewährt. Ist der Besitzer jedoch zu Hause, kann er oder sie den Besuchern auch mit Hilfe der Sprach- steuerung Zugang ins Haus gewähren. 22 | Buildings Category 22 | Buildings Category The mailman couldn‘t drop off the package because no one was home? Thanks to an idea from the Italian team, these kinds of problems will soon be a thing of the past. People identifi ed by the facial recognition software are automatically allowed into the house. A photo of anyone unknown is sent directly to the property owner‘s smartphone. The owner can decide, while out and about, whether to grant this visitor access. If the owner is at home, however, he or she can allow visitors entry with the help of voice control.

Gesture Driven Home Environment Hochschule Rhein-Waal | Germany Leider gibt es immer noch zu wenig Technolo- gien, die es körperlich behinderten Menschen ermöglichen, gewöhnliche Haushaltsgegenstän- de zu benutzen und zu bedienen. Dieses Team der Hochschule Rhein-Waal hat eindrucksvoll vorgestellt, wie das Öffnen eines Kleiderschranks und das Absenken der Klei- derstange mit Hilfe von Automatisierung den Lebensalltag von eingeschränkten Menschen vereinfachen können. Eine am Schrank montierte Kinect Kamera erfasst die Person, die sich vor dem Schrank befindet. Die Hand- und Armbewegungen wer- den analysiert und der entsprechende Befehl wird dann an die Steuerung weitergegeben – die Technologie, die wir in diesem Projekt anhand des Schranks gesehen haben, lässt sich auf viele weitere Haushaltsgegenstände übertra- gen, um den Lebensalltag von körperlich einge- schränkten Personen zu vereinfachen. 24 | Buildings Category 24 | Buildings Category Unfortunately, there are still too few technologies available that can help physically impaired people to use and operate ordinary household items. This team from the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences impressively demonstrated how opening a wardrobe and lowering the clothes rail using automation can make everyday life easier for disabled people.

Hotel Fire Escape System Shanghai University of Electric Power | China Was tun, wenn Feuer den Weg zum Notaus- gang versperrt oder vor Rauch keine Rettungs- wege mehr erkennbar sind? In großen Gebäuden, wie zum Beispiel Hotels, liegt bei einem Unfall oder einer Gefahrensitu- ation der Fokus auf der Leitung großer Men- schenmengen, um alle Gäste sicher aus dem Gebäude zu führen. Das intelligente Rettungssystem Hotel Fire Escape System leitet Hotelgäste mit visuellen Anzeigen und Audioanweisungen wohlbehalten aus dem Gebäude. Dabei erfasst es permanent mögliche Gefahrenquellen und passt die Ret- tungswege dementsprechend an. 26 | Buildings Category 26 | Buildings Category What to do when a fi re blocks an emergency exit or rescue routes can- not be identifi ed because of smoke? In large buildings, such as hotels, the focus is on the management to lead large numbers of people safely out of the building in the event of an accident or a dangerous situation. The intelligent Hotel Fire Escape Sys- tem leads hotel guests safely out of the building with visual displays and audio ins- tructions. It also assesses potential sources of danger on an ongoing basis and adjusts the escape routes accordingly.

Magic-Cube Building Sino-German University of Applied Sciences Tongji University | China Jedes Gebäude hat das Problem, dass die Son- neneinstrahlung und die Aussicht von allen Sei- ten nicht gleich schön und gleich lang sind. Die außergewöhnliche Idee des Teams aus China ermöglicht eine wechselnde Aussicht durch rotierende Stockwerke und die gleiche Zeit an direkter Sonneneinstrahlung für alle Bewohner. Aber nicht nur eine angenehme und abwechs- lungsreiche Aussicht wird den Bewohnern so ermöglicht: Auf dem Dach montierte Solar- anlagen können so auch der Sonne folgen und erzielen maximale Leistung, mit der sie das Gebäude mit Strom versorgen. 28 | Buildings Category 28 | Buildings Category 28 | Buildings Category Every building has the same problem: each side does not receive the same amount of sunshine or have equally pleasant views. The exceptional idea from the Chinese team permits a changing view thanks to rotating stories and an evenly distributed amount of sunshine for all the residents. But this does not only grant residents a pleasant, ever-changing view: solar panels mounted on the roof can follow the sun and generate maxi- mum power, which is then used to supply the building.

Die Projektideen in dieser Wettbewerbssparte haben das Ziel, Wissen mit Hilfe von Automatisierungstech- nik zu vermitteln oder Automatisierungs- technik in Form von Lehrmitteln für den Unterricht zu gestalten. To learn on real automation technology com- ponents, teaching aids, and demonstration sys- tems, to make the enthusiasm for technology tangible - that‘s what the Education category is all about. The goal of the project ideas in this competiti- on category is to transfer knowledge with the help of automation technology or to shape automation technology in the form of educa- tional materials for the classroom.

Torminator Berufsbildende Schule 1 Mainz | Germany 1 Die Fachschüler der Fortbildung zum Techniker entwickelten einen automatisierten Weltklasse- Torwart. Eine Puppe steht im Hallentor und bekommt über Sensoren, die oberhalb des Tors ange- bracht sind, die Information, wo sich der Ball befindet. An einer flexiblen Haltevorrichtung angebracht, kann sie sich in die Ecken bewe- gen und mit einer Geschwindigkeit von vier Millisekunden nahezu jeden Ball halten, somit hat sie sich den Namen „Torminator“ mehr als verdient! Mit einem rotatorischen Antrieb, einem Ser- vomotor, einer Lineareinheit und dem Kame- rasystem ist dieses Projekt ein Zusammenspiel aus Steuerung und Antriebstechnik, das die Jury besonders begeistert hat. 32 | Buildings Category 32 | Education Category These advanced student technicians developed an automated world class goalkeeper. A dummy goalkeeper receives information on the position of the ball via sensors installed above the goal. Mounted on a fl exible holder, it can move into the corners and, at a speed of four milliseconds, can catch almost any ball, thus earning the name „Torminator“, in english „Goalminator“! With a rotary drive, a servomotor, linear unit, and a camera system, this project is a combination of controller and drive technology that particu- larly impressed the jury.

An educational platform based on a racing cars game University of Ovideo | Spain 2 Gibt es eine verlockendere Kombination als Autos und Rennstrecken? Wohl kaum, dachten sich die Studenten aus Spanien und weckten mit ihrem Projekt das Interesse an Automation in vielen Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen. Entlang der Strecke montierte Sensoren und eine eigens programmierte Drohne kontrollie- ren die Anzahl und Geschwindigkeit der Autos und können somit Kollisionen ausschließen. Is there a more attractive combination than cars and race tracks? Probably not, thought the Spanish stu- dents, and their project awoke interest in automation in both young and old alike. Sensors mounted along the route and a specially programmed drone control the number and speed of the cars and can thus avoid collisions. 34 | Buildings Category 34 | Education Category

eCARus Technische Universität München | Germany 3 Seit vielen Jahren arbeiten Studenten der Tech- nischen Universität München in unterschied- lichen Teams an der Weiterentwicklung eines Elektromobils, um während des Studiums auch praktische Erfahrungen zu sammeln. Die Studenten des Teams eCARus haben eine Fernsteuerung zum Ein- und Ausparken ent- wickelt, da das schnelle und unfallfreie Parken vor allem in Großstädten mit relativ kleinen Parklücken oft problematisch ist. Diese kontrol- liert die Scheinwerfer und Geschwindigkeit des Autos sowie die Steuerung des Lenkrads. Somit kann das Auto perfekt eingeparkt wer- den, ohne dass der Fahrer sich im Fahrzeug befinden muss. Dementsprechend ist diese Fernbedienung besonders für ältere Modelle geeignet, die noch keine eingebauten Kameras besitzen. 36 | Buildings Category 36 | Education Category For many years, students at the Technical University of Munich have been working in diff erent teams to develop an electric vehicle in order to also get some hands-on experience during their studies. The students of the eCARus team developed a remote control for parking since quick, accident-free parking especially in big cities with their relatively small parking spaces is often a problem. This controls the headlamps and speed of the car as well as the steering wheel‘s controller. This way, the car can be perfectly parked without requiring a driver in the car. Accordingly, this remote control is particularly suitable for older models without pre-installed cameras.

PV Performance Monitoring System ITE College East | Singapore Wenn man über Einsatzgebiete von Solaran- lagen nachdenkt, so fallen einem automatisch sonnenreiche Länder ein. Allerdings können Solaranlagen auch bei bewölktem Himmel Strom produzieren. Ob sich dies allerdings auch lohnt, wurde im Rah- men dieses Projekts geprüft. Die Performance verschiedener Solaranlagen kann mit dem Moni- toring-System analysiert werden. Dies ermöglicht Lernenden Einblicke in die bestimmenden Parameter von Energiegewin- nung durch Photovoltaikanlagen und fördert den Einsatz von erneuerbaren Energien in wei- teren Ländern. 38 | Buildings Category 38 | Education Category When you think about the areas of application for solar systems, you automatically think about sunny countries. But solar systems can still produce electricity even when the sky is clou- dy. This project tested whether it is actually worth it. The performance of various solar systems can be analyzed using the Monitoring Sys- tem. This allows those studying the system to gain insights into the specifi c parameters of power generation from photovoltaic systems and promotes the use of renewable energies in more countries.

Environment Alle Projekte der Kategorie Environment haben gemeinsam, dass sie Automatisierungstechnologie einsetzen, um einen sparsamen Umgang mit Energie und Ressourcen zu fördern. Die Projekte betreffen dabei in ihrer Komplexität viele Lebensbereiche, denn für ein ressourcenschonendes Agieren gibt es, und das haben die Teams in dieser Kategorie eindrucksvoll gezeigt, noch sehr viel Potenzial. What all projects in the Environment category have in common is that they use automation technology to promote the economical use of energy and re- sources. Given their complexity, the projects thereby affect many areas of life since there is still a great deal of potential when it comes to using resources more wisely, which the teams impressively demon- strated in this category.

Automated Solar Stove Cape Peninsula University of Technology | Republic of South Africa Seven students from the South African team constructed an automated solar cooker that collects solar radiation in its large receptacle, concentrates it, and thus brings water to the boil. One of the project‘s highlights is its optimized solar energy effi ciency from sun position tracking. Moreover, diff erent temperatures can be set on the solar cooker to, for example, kill off bacteria in dirty water. This device can therefore be of great use particularly in Africa. 1 Die sieben Studenten des südafrikanischen Teams konstruierten einen automatisierten Solarkocher, der in seiner großen Schüssel alle Sonnenstrahlen einfängt, konzentriert und dadurch Wasser zum Kochen bringen kann. Ein Vorteil des Projekts liegt in der optimalen Solareffizienz durch Sonnenstandsnachführung. Außerdem ermöglicht der Solarkocher unter- schiedliche Temperaturen zum Kochen, um zum Beispiel Bakterien in schmutzigem Wasser durch hohe Temperaturen abzutöten. Mini Automated Farming Heriot Watt University, Dubai | UAE 2 Gesunde Ernährung ist wichtig! Davon hat sich ein junger Student aus den Vereinigten Arabi- schen Emiraten inspirieren lassen. Er hat eine Lösung entwickelt, mit der frische Kräuter in Ländern mit ungünstigen Wetterbedingungen angebaut werden können. Sensoren in dem Gewächshaus kontrollieren die Temperatur, Luftfeuchtigkeit und den Nähr- stoffgehalt, sodass die Pflanzen optimal versorgt werden. Die Kräuter, die in diesem vollautoma- tisierten Gewächshaus gezogen werden, kom- men nicht nur frisch auf den Tisch, es werden auch lange Transportwege gespart und dadurch die Umwelt zusätzlich geschont. 44 | Buildings Category 44 | Environment Category Good nutrition is important! That‘s just what inspired a young student from the United Arab Emirates. He developed a solution that allows fresh herbs to be grown in countries with adverse weather conditions. Sensors in the greenhouse control the temperature, humidity and nutri- ent levels so that the plants are optimally supplied with these. The herbs grown in this fully-automated greenhouse not only arrive fresh on your table but long transport routes are eliminated thus reducing the environ- mental impact.

Intelligent Bike System Sino-German University of Applied Sciences Tongji University | China 3 Stellt man sich den Straßenverkehr in Chinas Großstädten vor, so erscheint das Bild von überfüllten Straßen, in denen Autos im Smog stehen, hupen und nicht vorwärts kommen. Es wird also höchste Zeit, dass nach schnelleren und ökologischen Alternativen gesucht wird. Die Lösung dafür ist das Intelligent Bike System von Studenten dieser chinesischen Universität. Ein Akkumulator am Fahrrad lädt sich während der Fahrt automatisch auf und kann somit Energie für die anstrengendere Fahrt bergauf liefern. Um das Fahrrad gegen Diebstahl zu sichern, ist kein Schloss mehr nötig. Stattdessen lässt sich das Fahrrad bequem per App blockieren. 46 | Buildings Category 46 | Environment Category When you picture the traffi c in China‘s big cities, the image that comes to mind is overfi lled streets with cars standing in the smog, honking their horns, and not moving forward. So, it is high time that faster, more environmentally-friendly alternatives are found. The solution is the Intelligent Bike System from students from this Chine- se university. A rechargeable battery on the bicycle charges automatically during a trip and can supply energy for the strenuous uphill parts of any trip. A lock is no longer required to protect the bike against theft. Instead, the bike can be conveniently blocked by app.

Die Studenten des Teams aus Japan haben daher das Modell einer Offshore-Windkraftan- lage realisiert, welches ohne ein Fundament im Meeresboden Strom produziert. Das Problem ist allerdings, dass sich die Rückspiegel bei herkömmlichen Systemen nicht an die Position des Fahrers anpassen konnten, wodurch dessen Sicht nach hinten beschränkt ist.
