IDC Technology

IDC technology's push-in style bridging systems make it the easiest and quickest connection available. IDC technology is up to 80 percent faster when compared to screw clamp using a manual screwdriver with ferrules and up to 60 percent faster without ferrules. When compared to spring cage with ferrules, IDC is up to 70 percent faster and up to 50 percent faster without ferrules. The IDC termination method eliminates conductor preparation. By actuating the lever with a standard screwdriver, QUiX termination connects easily.

The idea behind the technology is relatively simple - an unstripped wire is forced into a V shaped tube or fork. Small blades slice through the insulation as the wires passes between them. As the insulation is cut, the bare wire is exposed and comes into contact with the terminating blades. This termination method is not only fast, but also gas-tight and vibration resistant. Its clamping force, pull out force and contact resistance is second only to screw clamp. For applications where field wiring is required, hybrids (IDC to screw or spring) are available, which allow the field technician to terminate a more familiar technology.
