Phoenix Contact challenges students to design working control system
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Phoenix Contact, a leading manufacturer of industrial electric and electronic technology, announces the 2010 Nanoline® contest. The contest challenges students to use Phoenix Contact’s Nanoline controller and nanoNavigator software to design and build a working automation system.
The winning team will receive an all expenses paid trip to Germany in April 2010, where team members will present their innovative idea at Phoenix Contact’s TectoYou booth at the Hanover Fair. The Hanover Fair is the largest industrial trade fair in the world, and TectoYou is a special hall dedicated to promoting engineering careers to young people.

Contest Timeline:
- January 20—Phoenix Contact will host a seminar for teachers and mentors to give the teams an overview of the technology
- January 23—Registration deadline
- January 25—Students will receive go-ahead and Phoenix Contact will ship Nanoline starter kits to teams
- March 1—Deadline to submit short project video, which will be used to determine finalists
- March 19—Finalists present projects to judges at Phoenix Contact USA and winner is named
- April 19-23—Winning project will be featured at TectoYou in Hanover, Germany
After registering, all teams will receive a Nanoline controller starter kit. The teams can download nanoNavigator software free of charge at www.nanonavigator.com, so they can start the software portion of their idea immediately. The intuitive flow chart software requires no programming experience.
A corresponding contest runs simultaneously in Germany, so the winning American team will meet the winning German team on the trip to Germany. The second and third place teams will win $500 and $250, respectively.
