Product and process modifications in line with RoHS and WEEE
The requirements of the RoHS, the WEEE and in particular of the ElektroG are put into practice by our specialists. This takes place in several steps, in part in cooperation with external organizations such as the The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM and ZVEI (the German electrical and electronic manufacturers' association) and in the following main areas of focus:
- Plastics
- Metals and their surface finishes
- Electronic components and PCBs
- Lead-free soldering in the reflow furnace, wave solder bath and with selective solder systems
We would like now to inform you of the current status.
Product lines complying with the directives:
Almost all products in the COMBICON range (PCB plug connectors and PCB terminal blocks), the feed-through and modular installation terminal blocks in the screw versions and the ST range of spring-cage terminal blocks have fulfilled the requirements of the EU directives for several years.
Some of the products are currently in the changeover phase. The changeover to RoHS compliant products is a continuous process. Our RoHS hotline will inform you on the latest status should you have a particular query.

Plastics:
The brominated flame retardant systems (PentaBDE and OctaBDE) listed in EU directive 2003/11/EU (restrictions of particular hazardous substances) have not been used for approximately 15 years according to our supplier of plastics.
This directive serves to do justice in a formal manner to year long fact.

Metals:
The requirements of the EU directives for semifinished products (Pb in Cu alloys < 4%) are fulfilled.

Surfaces containing Cr (VI):
In order to substitute corrosion protection systems containing Cr(VI), the changeover to RoHS-compliant surface systems is currently in process. These alternative coating systems qualify by retaining the technical properties, in particular the good corrosion protection.
Electronic products and soldering processes:
An examination of the soldering processes revealed that lead-free soldering of our products is possible.
