Safety relays for all new standards

Being one of the first manufacturers, Phoenix Contact provides a complete range of safety relays that fulfills all new safety standards. Thus, in addition to the existing modules for applications up to SIL 3 as per IEC 61508, a wide range of products is also now available for use up to PL e as per ISO 13849-1 and SILCL 3 as per IEC 62061.

The user thus has the opportunity of adapting to the new standards in good time. This is necessary because the widely used EN 954-1 with its safety categories B to 4 will become inapplicable by the end of November 2009.

ISO 13849-1 will then be the new universal standard in mechanical engineering which is applicable not only for electrical, but also for pneumatic and hydraulic control systems. In case of complex electronic systems in system engineering, the use of IEC 62061 is recommended whereas IEC 61508 is mainly used in the process industry.

All new standards imply the determination of reliability or failure probability of the entire safety chain from the sensor to the actuator, instead of merely classifying a control system into safety categories. This increases the requirements for planners and design engineers.

To simplify this process, Phoenix Contact additionally provides a comprehensive range of services - right from individual consultation to a free 24 h hotline.
