Wireless solutions for Ex zone 1

Thanks to the new RAD-Line IO solutions, direct wireless transmission from the potentially explosive Zone 1 is now also possible.

The RAD-Line IO-System RAD-ISM-2400-SET-UD-RPS-NAM-EX has been designed for the transmission of two digital and one analog sensor signal (4…20 mA). The sensors in Ex zones 0, 1 and 2 are acquired via intrinsically safe circuits and transferred to the receiver in the safe area or in Ex zone 2. If only an analog sensor signal is transferred, the RAD-ISM-2400-SET-UD-RPS-EX system is the one.

Using standard antennas

Thanks to the wireless technology in the Ex-range, data can be exchanged irrespective of the zones.

Wireless system, voltage supply and Ex-isolation amplifier are located in a pressure-tight encapsulated housing (Ex-d) which is equipped with an Ex barrier for the antenna line.

Advantage: Passive and economical standard antennas and antenna extension cables can be connected to the barrier since they are considered safe electrical equipment. Standard antennas can thus be installed in a position that is perfect for the transmission. At the same time, the range and the communication speeds are also not restricted.

Interference-free communication over great distances

The Trusted Wireless wireless technology that has been specially developed for industrial applications ensures safe and interference-free communication over distances of up to several kilometers. The FHSS method (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) used allows parallel operation of several systems close to each other.
The solution with an Ex-barrier for the antenna line makes it possible to install an antenna in an optimum position, using standard antennas and cables.

Advantages at a glance

  • A complex and costly isolation between the Ex and Non-Ex areas using barriers is no longer required since isolation is already integrated in the wireless solution.
  • Potential differences do not pose any problems for Wireless since electrical isolation is already integrated.
  • A barrier in the high-frequency antenna line prevents an ignition spark from being emitted via the antenna line even in the case of an error.
