Secure FO transmission in the EX area
In systems in potentially explosive areas, the challenge lies in the safe operation of the used network infrastructure. Narrow limits are imposed on the copper technology in such cases due to the electrical energy required for transmission.
Compared to this, the required energy for fiber-optic data transmission is a few times lower. Another advantage of FO technology is the complete electrical isolation between the connected system parts.

The devices of the PSI-MOS system are equipped with an energy-limited, optical interface. In the event of an error, for example if the FO cable is broken, the maximum permissible energy is not exceeded anywhere on the FO path. Thus, ignition operations can be reliably ruled out.
The PSI-MOS installation system is approved for installation in zone 2. The FO interfaces are qualified as associated equipment for zone 1 and can be directly connected to the devices installed there.

Optical diagnostics
If the optical signal quality is diminished, a warning is output via a switch contact once the safety reserves have been reached. This pre-failure detection allows preventive maintenance measures to be taken and therefore prevents the high costs involved with a system failure.

Cross-wiring with a system bus
The supply voltage and data signals are cross-wired between devices via a system bus that is snapped into the DIN rail. This minimizes the installation and wiring costs considerably. The system bus even allows PSI-MOS devices to be plugged/unplugged during operation.
