A PC terminal block sets new standards – Straight onto the PCB with 125 A

Not only in more difficult economic times is the requirements for developers to design each new device or each new generation of devices more simply and more economically than the previous ones. If possible, the aim is to maintain the functions, whilst facilitating operation.

As recognized market leader for the PCB connection system, Phoenix Contact has supported numerous designers of equipment and PCBs to master this task.

For the smallest (0.14 mm²) to medium-sized (16 mm²) conductors, the COMBICON range with its diverse printed circuit terminals and plug connectors has for a long time been offering the best solution, one which can be easily selected and integrated in the CAD system of the customer thanks to COMBICON Select.

In the field of drive technology and wherever high currents connections or thick conductors are required on the printed circuit board, there have always been problems connecting conductors with large cross sections (>16 mm²). Complex and costly special aids with ring cable lugs, up front DIN rails with packages of modular terminal blocks, or even in-house developments not always in conformance with the standards were often the only solution to connect conductors up to 35 mm² with the PCB.

Phoenix Contact has been dealing with the field of thick conductors and offers the professional solution with MKDSP 25. This screw printed circuit terminal block with a pitch of 15.00 mm and with the proven tension sleeve principle is designed for unlimited UL rating for 600 V in acc. with UL 1059 and for 1000 V and currents up to 125 A VDE. It is connected to the PCB fast and securely with the wave soldering process. Thus, wiring of conductors up to 25 mm²,flexible with ferrule, and 35 mm², multiple wire, can be quick and user-friendly. The newest member from the proven MKDS range with integrated test connection is available as single-position version with flange on one side and as 2 to 9-position version with and without side flange.

This provides full flexibility when fixing the PCB in the housing. On the cutouts of the PCB, the side flanges can conduct the conductor torques directly onto the housing via the stud bolts to be mounted, thus ensuring mechanical relief of the soldering points. If the PCB connections are to be mounted in several blocks and there is no space for several flange pairs on the PCB, the stud bolts can also be fixed directly on the side of the printed circuit terminal block without flange. Of course the marking area for the terminal point is generous and is suitable for Zack strip, SK self-adhesive marker card as well as for direct printing.
