Extended scope of functions for SMCS switches

Phoenix Contact has developed the Factory Line SMCS switches in order to be able to fulfill the increasing realtime requirements in industrial networks for IO data and other IT services (e.g. video, voice, etc.) via Plug and Play. Their use plays an especially important role in Ethernet, Profinet and Ethernet/IP environments.

The new Firmware 3.0 has the following functions:
  • Media Redundancy Manager (MRM)
  • Expanding the Smart Mode by the Ethernet/IP operating mode
  • Supporting static Multicast filtering
  • Implementing the IGMP snooping function
  • Supporting static VLANs

New properties

  • The SMCS switch can now be used as a media redundancy master simply by plugging in a license (FL MEM-Plug/MRM)
  • Supporting virtual LANs (VLANs)
    • Increasing the network performance
    • Improving the data integrity (security)

The SMCS switches support superfast gigabits at all eight ports and with the new Firmware 3.0, they have the same important functions as the high-performance MMS/MCS switches.
