Increased network and system availability using Managed Switches

Network and system availability must always be ensured in order to attain high productivity. Redundant networks are realized, so that alternative communication options are available in case of transmission path failure.

Redundant switching time is especially important within redundantly networked automation cells.

The managed switches MMS and MCS from the Factory Line product range from Phoenix Contact use the new firmware 4.60 to provide mechanisms that are especially customized to industrial application, in accordance with the medium redundancy protocol (MRP in accordance with IEC 62439).

Medium redundancy protocol

The medium redundancy protocol (MRP) in accordance with the new standard IEC 62439 CDV (High Availability in Automation Networks) provides guaranteed switch-over times of 500 ms for ring structures. It replaces the conventional exclusive solutions and can be used worldwide.

The medium redundancy protocol is a part of PROFINET standardization in accordance with IEC 61158. The new functions of firmware 4.60 expand the field of application of the switches in PROFINET and Ethernet/IP networks.
